Blood Pressure

158/104 is even a bit scary. Need to get it to 140/86 or below to be safe. Good luck to you guys. Anyone with specific questions can email me. This is something I know "a little bit" about (actually, it's my job and I will be happy to help anyone needing advice.

Both authors were students of the same initial teacher, but the essence of both is the idea of recognizing stress, negative emotions, negative motion cycles, and learning to understand the process of holding onto an emotion and thus how to let go of it. It's very easy for it to start sounding like metaphysical hippy crap, but the core concept is one that useful and important for anyone trying to reduce anxiety and stress but constantly finding themselves going back to the negative emotion and stirring it up in themselves.

Fantastic links! I think I may have heard of the Sedona Method! I'll look it up, Thank you! :)

The author was interviewed on npr a while ago. It's a really simple core concept, but it's a specific way of approaching the subject thats not necessarily intuitive for most people. You'll more often hear "think good thoughts and it will get better" rather than "realize that your holding onto the negative emotion and allow yourself to let go of it". again, it's easy for it to start sounding really silly but it's not. Most of my friends and family would describe me as the most patient person they've ever met, and nearly all of that comes from recognizing a negative trend towards anxiety, impatience, hatred and frustration and saying to myself "it's not that important. I don't need to feel this" and just letting it wash over and out of me. I learned it not through the sedona method, but out of necessity during highschool when general anxiety was crippling me psychologically, emotionally and driving me into physical depression.

Dwayne,
It is ironic this thread started when it did. Somewhere in the last two weeks, my Dad's BP went from normal to EXTREMELY high. He wasn't feeling well one evening last week, so he checked it at home and it was at something like 190/110!!! He probably should have gone into the ER! (but he's stubborn and didn't)

He went to the Dr. the following day and they immediately put him on some meds to get it down asap. Even with the meds he is still pushing 150/100 regularly. Testing to follow. They're not sure what is going on. No past history of high BP, and it doesn't run in the family either. Given how it came on so suddenly and so dramatically, they think it is some kind of a medical issue.

Anyway, I've directed him here. Lots of good info in ONE place. First thing he has been told (by most everyone, me included) is to drink more water. He knows he doesn't drink enough (water that is).

That IS rather dramatic! yikes! Best wishes to your father, I hope they get it figured out.

LVC, I have that book waiting for me on hold at the library! Cant wait to get it in my hands. :D

I dont realize how tense I am till I force myself to relax through a little exercise, the effect is so massive that I feel like I am falling. Odd sensation.

OneWhoBuys, I'm not dead yet. :p Left side's a little tingly though.

^^^^^^^^ Take it easy Dwayne... Fine leatherwork is an art that is passing with time. Get it under control, amigo.

Medically, it is in vogue to treat symptoms. I disagree with that course of action. Treating the cause of the illness is the better way to go. Often times it will require a significant shift in lifestyle. We are what we eat. Try to stay away from foods that are processed. Think about what your parents or grandparents ate. Your body knows these foods and knows how to process them. And take care of your body, It's the only one you will ever own. You need to do some sort of cardiovascular workout at least 4 times a week. Some weight training will keep your muscles and bones strong, as well as increasing your metabolism and energy throughout the day.

But the most important thing.... the very, very, most important thing... is to stay positive. The most important part of the day... is waking up. Once that is accomplished, anything is possible.

I'll leave you with a quote. It is one of my favorites, and it is inscribed on the tombstone of a fella named John Wayne.

It reads: “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.”

I do believe you hit the nail firmly on the head kdstrick, it seems most of the prescription meds only control the symptoms not the root cause of the problem.

I can artificially keep the pressure down, but if I dont treat the cause, stress, it wont get any better and I'll be on those awful chemicals forever.

I am my families sole provider, leather work feeds, clothes, and gives us shelter. Yes, that makes for a slightly energetic day. :p
