but y does it matter. this isnt who wants to be a millionaire . who cares what i know about history of knives...? i want facts/ opinions, on what knife works better for what situation.. i cant give you one i will encounter cuz i dont know the future.. but it will need to be a hard working sturdily built and good at self defense..
and if the president himself cant sell me on his knives then im sure non of you can.

Man this guys really is a Joke-r.

The president of Spyderco does not need to sell you anything.
No one needs to sell you on anything.

If you really want to find more in depth information, upgrade your account and search the forum for your specific questions. This way you will find your information and avoid monstrous threads.

no he doesnt but i do find it odd that the pres/founder of a knife company doesnt have even one thing to say on why his knives are better than others... then again.. only like 2 of you have.. so y should i expect anything different..

and i was thinkin about upgrading my acount b4 i made this post, but now i see it would be just a waste of time since you guys cant help me anyways didnt even really try, and cant take a lil ignorance from someone who already proclaimed not to know much about knives, and yet still fail to make any valid arguments

Dude just buy a knife that looks cool and be done with it. You are talking about very fine differences that only serious knife guys care about. It's a tool - sharp on one side, pointy at the end. Everything else other than quality is the subject of countless discussion threads. Buy from Spyderco, Kershaw or ZT or Benchmade and you can't go wrong.

In the time you've spent ticking people off with dismissive comments you could have just gone out to your local knife stockist, picked up a ZT or Benchmade and walked out with a great knife.

everyones uses varies... no shit....
how about u give me an example of when your knife did great work... instead of saying "everyones different"

Ok, I'll try one more time to answer your question nicely. I dont give a flying frick bout lateral torsion strength. I've never pried with one of my spydies or my BM Mini-grip. So, I'll give an example of how my knife did good for me.
I had a box of hot cups to open to put under the counter at work. I grabbed my SE Endura 4. I cut the tape on the box. It cut it. I was happy.
You want your knife to pry, most people at this website haven't ever done this with their knives, especially nonCCC knives. So, yes , everyone's needs are different. I can't tell you bout my endura's prying strength, I dont know it. I don't think anyone else here does. I CAN NOT wait till this is moved to W&C... ;)

.. why is it so hard for ppl to get off their high horse and just answer a simple question...

for example
if someone asked me what blade i thought was best i would say BM 950. ....heres the key .

BECAUSE.....
BM uses great materials and for a good price, and customer service is 2nd to none...

i dont like spyderco knives because the blades are really thin.. they use substandard materials for the price.. and the handles are too large.

.
and what makes Rift better then rest of the knifes ?
I have it , not impressed, but its better then most BM's .

I cant talk about Spyderco customer service , I never had to use it and I have more then 30 Spydies . But I did send my new BM 710 for repairs .

what is so good about materials in BM what Spyderco doesn't have ??

Spyderco has lots of knifes made from 4mm thick steel , how is it thin ?
950 made of 3mm .

dude , you need to buy one Spyderco it will be hard to look at BM after that .

i dont pry with my knives i dont want to.. that was a for instance life or death situation i said.. that was one situation that i was explaining earlier that if you HAD to pry something you wanted a tool that didnt have a hole in it the knife was an example since i was talking aobut hte spydy hole.you took everything i said out of context and it seems you didnt even read it completly

well for me the rift has a pefect blade shape that will take almost every task in stride adn the tip is strong. the rift was the 2nd most comfortable blade i held. the rukus was the most comfortable

i dont know the specs for spydy but i saw a pic of a mili and the blade seems to be really thin towards the tip (more so than others).

it just seems that spyderco uses the same materials but charges more than other companies do ...

no. and what are you worried about having to pry. in an emergency? A car door? I couldnt open mine with a 4ft crowbar........ But go ahead. try your rift.... *twang* There goes the blade.......... uhoh!

If your sole use for a knife is a folding prybar, then go with an overbuilt knife. But here is how I see it. The number of smaller tasks that require slicing ability greatly exceed the number of people I need to stab and things I need to pry. My Delica 4 FFG has a 13 mm hole and it's thickest point is 2.5mm. Sure it makes for a lousy prybar, but I'm not interested in that capability for my EDC. I would much rather have a knife that cuts well.

Every knife is a trade-off. To make broad sweeping generalizations of a company's entire product line is foolish. Especially if all of these companies have a history of releasing good products.

No the Military will not pry as well as a ZT 0301. But I can guarantee you it pierces and slices better than the aforementioned 0301. These are both different breeds of knives each with a different purpose in mind. Both are successful in what they set our to achieve.

Also a side note, if you actually take the time to improve your spelling and grammar then people tend to take your posts more seriously. No one is expecting perfection, but pure 'internet speak' isn't very pleasant to read.

To say Spyderco's have thin blades, way too thin and Benchmades do not, is just pure ignorance. There's different models of both brands and they are different between models.
As you can see the Large Manix has the way thicker blade compared to the very thin bladed Benchmade Onslaught. Both are large knives.

ok maybe they all do.. but how did spyderco innovate them???? im sure the spydy didnt innovate a pocket clip or opening hole..

Oh... SO unwise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyderco

All you have to do is read the first two lines.

"Spyderco is a company, founded in 1978 by Sal Glesser and based in Golden, Colorado, U.S.A., that produces knives and knife sharpeners. Spyderco introduced many features that are now common on folding knives, including the pocket clip, serrations, and the opening hole."

You automatically lose all credit, son.

Sal is known not to take bait. I don't find it odd at all.

If you want to meet someone who will try to sell you on a knife (if you require that sort of attention), then I duly recommend you visit Cold Steel's site.

I thought you said we were all adults here! You sound like little Pinocchio

Nothing good can come from your attitude and I still find your language objectionable. We don't like closing threads but I am closing this. If you start up again elsewhere with the same bad attitude, I will know it, and you will regret it.
