Bm710-1401

Had anyone received a blue final layered one? Curious if they are random like the 810-1's.

Mine should be here tomorrow, so I will report back then.

In a related thread (New 710 M390 Black/blue G10 Arrived Today) someone mentioned that mine may not have even swedges and he's right.

Oh my god, is that a 710 with decent blade centering?! They really must paid attention to these. Also, is it just me or do the swedges look very uneven?

Benchmade seems to have corrected some QC issues present in the 810-1401 and 940-1 that I have.

Good eye on the swedges! I just checked and they're definitely not symmetrical on mine!

Other than the uneven swedge there's another issue on mine. If you run your finger from the bottom up it will catch the tip of the blade so be careful not to cut yourself.

I compared my new 710-1401 against my 710SBKD2. The 710SBKD2 does not have any of these two issues.

May have to send mine in but it'll mean being without one until the next batch comes out. I'll contact KnifeWorks to see if they have any spares left because I know they ran out of the first batch. The swedge issue means at least a blade replacement.

I'm curious to find out if others have any of these two issues.

I have the same two issues. My swedge is not too bad and I can live with that. When the knife is closed though, just a bit of throw tip pokes through. Not sure what I want to do since this is knife is one of the smoothest I've ever gotten, and I have a lot.

On mine, the tip doesn't stick out, and is recessed slightly into the handle; though if I press slightly so as to push the pad of my finger between the scales, I can just catch the tip. Considering it takes pressure, it doesn't bother me in the least bit. There are plenty of designs that one can do that. The swedge on mine is so close to perfect that I can't tell if it's slightly off, or if it's just the light. In either case, that doesn't bother me either, because even under scrutiny, I really cannot tell. I'm still happier with this knife than I have been with any other in a good while.

My swedge is fine. If it looks uneven at first, turn the knife upside down (tip up while closed) & look again. Mine looked uneven when viewed tip up, probably because of the way the light hit it. Turning it over alters this effect for some reason.

When the knife is closed my finger can catch the tip if I press it into the handle sideways but not in any normal sort of contact I'd make. The pivot pin needed to be loosened a bit but otherwise mine is flawless. Knifeworks deserves a big hand for continuing to bring us these sprint runs like this. The AFCK sprint was a grail knife of mine & this one was a must-have as well. Keep 'em coming.

The false edge on the spine (opposite of the blade) is ground uneven on the area where the material is removed by the tip.

Top left side of blade. I also took this to show the grind marks that people habe been referring to in previous posts, for those who did not pre order, or haven't received theirs yet.

No optical illusion on mine with the swedge being slightly uneven and the tip protruding slightly. Neither are currently show stoppers for me. Time will tell if I should send it in. I know I should decide sooner rather than later because then none will be available.

Excellent pic. One of my adult sons ordered one and it looks the same.

I got rid of my Southard because of the protruding tip issue. I hope this one is not the same.
Have to wait extra week because I live in Canada, but based on these reviews, now I'm not so exited.
I can live with the uneven swedge, but not the protruding tip.
Cheers

No unevenness, no tip protrusion on mine. 90 seconds of work on the edge and it's time for me slip it in my pocket and enjoy a Friday evening!

I'd keep your excitement up. I received what I consider to be a perfect specimen, and I am very particular. I can tell already that this one will stay one of my favorites.

Thanks a lot !

I got mine in the mail the other night and I love it! I'll post some pics later.

Just received my 710-1401, and it's in perfect condition. Centered, even swedges, no exposed tip. Couldn't be happier.
