Bm710-1401

Thank you for the welcome! Between this thread and the "Beer and Blades" thread, I had to register. If I ever come up with a picture decent enough to deserve posting, I'll chime in there as well.

The G10 is on the smoother side of my experience. Similar to my Knifeworks 810, if you're experienced with that model. The milled grooves on the scales' edges are shallower than the 810, and thereby less aggressive. Very tight and smooth piece. I'm happy with it.

I just received mine today. The contoured scales are really nice, in my opinion. I have not see pictures of the standoffs as of yet and thought you might like to see them.

Cheers!

Nice and congrats!

How's the blade centering, play and sharpness?

Mine's stuck in Louisiana!

Centering is right down the middle. Play is zero. Sharpness is good factory quality. Not mirrored Edge Pro sharp, but totally serviceable.

It's a nice a folder as $200 will get you, in my experience and opinion. Hope yours makes it out of LA soon! Let me know what your impressions are when it arrives.

Edit:
Someone asked if the spine is rounded. Mine squared off, just like my regular D2 710

Great information! Thank you.

Same here! It shows as having left Louisiana last night, and with USPS Priority Mail, I'm hoping for delivery tomorrow, Friday in the worst case, though.

Dillon20 kindly pointed out a few posts ago that the spine is indeed squared off, as in the regular production 710.

Here is the spine. I apologize for the poor photography.

I thought I read that it would have a rounded spine on the knifeworks site.

I just got mine! It deserves every bit of excitement and anticipation. It is very solidly constructed - the blue/black G10 and finish make it feel like a completely different knife. The blade grinds are even, edge is shaving sharp, and it is as smooth as one would expect. I am very pleased with it, and Knifeworks' customer service throughout the whole experience.

Mine came in today and it's a perfect specimen! Benchmade has been listening. Blade is centered, no blade play in any direction and blade is decently sharp. Love the smooth G-10 which looks great in black/blue.

Finally, I have a collection of my favorite Benchmade folders with premium materials (I'll take a picture of the collective later):

  • 940-1
  • 707-1201
  • 810-1401
  • 710-1401
  • 480-1

Got mine today, too. All pretty nice. Spine is roughly finished like most BMs, flat towards the top of the blade is rougher finished than my other M390 knives. I like the handle a lot more than I expected (I really like the standard handles so prepared to not like it as much). There is a ton of oil between the handle skeleton and scales, enough where if you grip hard a bunch comes up; going to clean it out a bit after I sharpen it. Was happy to see there wasn't an LE marking on the blade; props to KW for leaving it off.

Quick pics for people on the fence based on pattern:

I just got home to find mine has arrived.I proceeded to inspect the knife. This one does not have a polished or stonwashed blade. Some faint grind lines from the blade grinding are still visible. The bevels are ground perfectly and the blade is perfectly centered also. The lock up and smoothness are superb. The blue standoffs add a touch of class. The polished split arrow clip and silver hardware brings out the uniqueness of the scales and contrasts nicely.Another beautiful quality knife that will probably last my lifetime.I think there should be a lot of pleased owners of this exclusive. Two thumbs up:thumbup::thumbup:
