-----
Thank you Brian,Gene and the others for all your kind words:thumbup:

Hunt happened exactly as I described it

and I do VALUE AND APPRECIATE all the respect you have shown in your comments about me(and my 12 year old son).

He was taken aback by all the nice comments you all said about me-and HIM.

Again---YOU ALL ROCK!!!!:D:D:D

Thanks again

Dr.Bill

You are very welcome, Bill. Thanks for being a great member here.

Jwilliams, thanks for your support, too!

Great story, great pics cool kid!
I'd never heard of hunting them that way and I am impressed. At 12 he must have a lot of guts.
As for the frisbee in the woods, Brian that brings up bad memories of running full speed to catch one, sliding on pine needles and landing legs spread around a small tree.

Cool pics and I'm jealous. I've gone hog hunting a few times but never saw any hogs. I guess you would call it wandering in the woods at midnight instead. I have always wanted to go with just a spear or knife though.

I finally got around to going on a hog hunt in the sugar cane fields around Lake Okeechobee this past winter. I used a Cold Steel boar spear and it dropped a 130 pound sow immediately. The guys down here use Florida Cur dogs. I always thought that they were pit bull/hound mixes, but they are a fairly old breed that has been around the South and other places for at least 100 years. My brother went back a coupleof months later to brush up on his shooting kills for his King Ranch nilgai hunt this fall. He apparently turned the head of a smaller sow into the infamous "pink mist cloud" A .338 Win Mag will do that:eek: Donw around the lake, the Seminole will catch the piglets and castrate them so that when they grow up, the meat tastes better. The farmer would prefer that they all died because they can tear up a sugar can field quickly. They only eat the bottom 6 inches or so of the cane, which is the sweetest part and move on to the next plant.

I hate to be the one to ask dumb questions, but I assume the dogs grab hold and pull away from each other, to kind of hold the pig in place? And then you, or your gutsy 12 year old son, runs in there and stabs the pig before it can get free? And I also assume that while the dogs are biting and the pig is fighting to get away, that you're trying to stab a fur tornado? With two other fur tornados trying to hold the first one in place?

I respect your son for trying this as much as I respect him for succeeding! If I tried it, I guarantee you I'd stab myself, or the dog, or myself and the dog. Probably everything but the pig.

Good videos.

Great hunt story Dr. B.

Takes some serious cajones to do that, a boar could slash your femoral artery and turn the tables pretty quick.

I just have to laugh at all the people that think this sort of hunt is "inhuman". Yet they are perfectly content to eat bacon raised on a farm. Good on you and your boy.

I agree with you.....

I have Killed a Boar just like the Videos show it's done

...Looks exactly like that...

and until someone has tried it--few things can compare to the fright you feel.(especially the first time)

Thanks again for your kind and honest words!!

Dr.Bill

They can and will tear you apart. Like I said in my first post, I have a scar from a 210 lb hog. I have found that the smaller the hog the more dangerous they are. They are super quick. I have lost count of how many we caught. But finally had to resort to shooting them on sight. We were losing too many crops!

I think it's great! Bet your boy was on cloud nine... not just for bagging one up close and personal, but for being the only one to do so. Much kudos!

Way to go Doc...and son:) that is flippin awesome, again congrats to the both of you on a job well done..Oh yeah, can never forget the dogs, congrats to them as well.:)

father and son bonding at its best, you are teaching your son to be a man, great job.

Man, I missed this post! Ouch, dude, can you hit the really high notes now when you sing? :p

Alex, you're welcome. I have no patience for trolls. It's summer, and too many kids have nothing better to do with their time...
