Bob Andrews - Old Hundred Collectibles passed away

I just got a chance to read my email. I am very saddened by this news. My condolences to his family.

I hope this is the right picture. For those who meet him please correct me if not. I just thought it might be nice to put a face to the comments and prayers.

Prayers for those who knew him and his family.

I purchased from Bob many times. This is awful. My condolences to his family. RIP Bob, keep an eye out on the porch from knife heaven.

I didn't know Bob but, it is always sad news to hear of a member's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. (Sorry for your loss)

My condolences.

I just discovered his site and made my first purchase from him this July. Couldn't have been more pleased.

Oh, so sorry to hear Bob passed. I met him at the (2014?) Rendezvous and purchased a couple of SFOs from him since. My deepest condolences to his family. He'll be missed on this Porch.

Very sad news. I was afraid that things had taken a turn for the worse when he stopped posting his blog. I bought several knives from Bob and he always treated me very well. He was professional and a gentleman.
He was known to rub some folks the wrong way, but I always thought he just didn't kiss up to you. He ran his business the way he wanted and made no apologies for it.
I liked Bob and will miss him.
Peace and strength to his family during this trying time.

Bob was the first dealer that I developed a personal relationship with. He and I hit it off, so to speak. Does anyone remember the discussion board that he tried to launch? I think I was one of very few that participated there, and he and I started a relationship. As a new collector in 2013, he helped me understand traditional knives. He was very opinionated and could turn some heads here, and others could tick him off and he would go on strike from BF for a while. I'd email him privately and cool him down. After not hearing from him for a while, I emailed him on August 15th. He'd been fightin for a while, but his response led me to believe he was doing much better. Heck just a week and a half ago, I received my HJ10 from him. I thought all was OK. So saddened to learn of this loss.

Josh,
****The first thing I learned about selling knives is that everybody has different tastes. What one person will think* is the most wonderful thing ever seen, the next person might say "eewww", what the hell is that?"

His take on SFO process-

Ok, thx. *And congratulations on your 1st SFO. *Were *you happy with the process, or is it too much of a pain, for what you get out of it?
No, It was good. I have a very good working relationship Chris and Bill Howard too. I just ell what I would like and it is either Yes or No, no problem. It's Bill's Company and he has the final say on everything, and I'm okay with that. He has pretty good judgement and makes an awful nice knife!

Speaking of SFO's:

I believe Bob had 5 (Edit-make it 6)made, starting mid November of last year.

6)*edit-thanks all I overlooked this one* adding the H10's to this list. I'm not sure if it was an sfo or an extra parts run, but it was for Bob. (Pic stolen fair and square from AusLox)

Bob is from Coal Country, and I worked in many of the mines that surround "Hundred, WV". All large-underground longwall mines. When his 47 SFO in black linen came out, I did my best to get him to call it the "coal miner". Then the coal miner goin to church knife. I think he ended up referring to it as the "workin man goin to church/meetin knife". Boy he was proud of that SFO.

Actually, I found the email. Here is what Bob called his black linen 47 sfo:
Okay Josh, You've got.........They turned out just as I had them pictured in my head. I think they look great! The Reservations are rolling in too!* "The Working Man's Sunday Go to Meetin Knife!"*
Thanks,
Bob

Bob was so very good to me. So sad this evening.

Break out your old hundred SFO's and 72's (Bob's favorite GEC pattern).

My thoughts and prayers go out to Bob and his family. I purchased more than a few GEC's from him and always had a great transaction. Rest In Peace my friend, you will be missed by all us traditionalists!

Sad to hear met Bob at the GEC open house, prayers to his family

Bob was a great guy. I met him at a local knife show after chatting on the forum. Bob taught me a lot about traditional knives. He introduced me to the GEC brand and the Howard family. He loved knives and sharing his knowledge.
Hundred WV isn't to far from Pittsburgh so it's probably not surprising to hear he was also a Steelers fan.
Rest In Peace my friend.

What a great, thoughtful post. I wish I had the time to post similar stories of things Bob told me over the last few years. One of the things I really liked about him was that he was opinionated and told it as he saw it.

I was thinking it would be cool to post pictures of his SFO's and you beat me to it. I do believe he also had one of the fixed blades done as an SFO although I don't recall the pattern number. He had the shield put on the pile side so you could see it if it was sheathed on your right side.

Bob was a first class dealer and an even better person. I always told him, "Bob, if you have the knife I'm.interested in, I will buy from you first." I told him all GEC dealers were good, but he was the best. I probably bought 50+ knives from him over the years. This is a sad day for me, and I am really going to miss this good man.

Thanks for the personal insight Josh. I bought from Bob a handful of times and sent a few emails about knives and he was always helpful and definitely said what he wanted. I always appreciate that in a person.

Prayers for his family...

Such a bummer to see this today. I was afraid he wasn't doing too well with some info he had in a few of his blog postings and his post here on the forums. I bought quite a few knives from Bob and he was a pleasure to deal with, always smooth and treated me kindly. He once emailed me out of the blue to see if I had a certain sodbuster since he knew I collected them and was going to pick the knife up for me if i didn't have it in my collection. We also talked a bit via email about our Bullnose SFO's last year and we even traded each other two of our runs, two of my Ole Yellers for two of his Tortoise Shell Acrylics, I still have both. I'll tip one back for Bob tonight and keep his family in my thoughts.

I didn't have any personal dealings with him, but I sure knew him from the forum.

Sorry to hear of this. My condolences to Bob's family, rest in peace, Bob...
