Bob Loveless passed away today

Rest in peace, Mr. Loveless. Thank you for all you have done for the knife world.

I will add my condolences for the family for a true pioneer in modern day knifemaking. I first saw his drop point knives in a reference book in 1972 and started me on 38 year adventure with all kinds of knives. But his were and are classics, masterpieces and truly admirable.

RIP Mr. Loveless.

So many years ago I set up my meager table at the Pasadena, California Show.
The Show opened around 9 am.
Around 1 Bob Loveless strolls into the room and sets up on the table behind mine and lays down his knives.
Once he sits down I introduce myself and politely ask if the pieces are for sale, "of course" he says, "how many do you want". At the time I could not really afford it but I tongue in cheek said that I would take them all. After removing the one knife Bob donated as a doorprize, Mr Loveless packed up the knive's, put them on my Table and told me to pay him when I could. That began a long and enjoyable road to where I stand today.
I am sure that most of us that have spent any time at all with Bob can spin some fantastic tales!

May Bob rest in peace, he was a great maker and contributed much to the knife community.

what a sad day. bob was a great guy, ive talked to him a few times and to me it was like talking to john wayne. i,ll miss you bob.

Rest In Peace Bob. All of his articles, book's and the like taught me so much, one of my greatest wishes was to meet him before he passed. Maybe in another life, ill raise my glass to you tonight Bob.

Rest in peace, indeed. We and future generations will be grateful for his legacy.

My best to his family and friends.

Today's makers would do well to cultivate what Loveless has sown...both personally and professionally. His character is the stuff of mythology...his story an inspiration to those who aspire to greatness.
Rest easy, oh pioneer.

True That Dave!

I picked up the phone late Thursday night, and called Bobs number at the shop. Late in the evening is when we talked the most. I knew he was gone, but I called anyway.

Just knowing the phone was wringing on Bobs desk, in his little cubbie hole of a office made me feel a little like he was there. That we were once again having a good time talking to each other.
Man I miss Him. And will for a long time.
I don't mine tell you it hurts.
When I needed advice on "Anything", Knife related or not, it was Bob who was always there. He has been as good a Friend and Mentor as a Man could have.
Thank God Jim is still there!

A very sad day indeed.

I am happy for him and his family that he had such a long and fruitful life in so many ways. God Bless the man and his family.

Legends never die.

Mike,
Surely you were a great friend to him. I wish you comfort in this grief.

That's a really cool story Dave, reminds me of the other poster saying he felt like he met John Wayne, old school guys that are few and far between nowadays. I can only hope when MY time comes I can get to hang out with the likes of these legends. Mac
