Bob Loveless passed away today

This is very sad news indeed. Prayers sent out to Mr. Loveless family and friends. A true pioneer and legend. He will be missed.

There are few larger icons in modern knifemaking; truly a great.
He will be surely missed.
Rest in peace knowing you have taught many of the living.

My Mentor and close friend is dead. Its a sad time here at the Lovett house.
Bob has been in bad shape for some time. I talked to him just a few days ago, and he sounded very weak. Jim told me Bob had gotten down to 125lbs. He was wasting away.

He didn't want anyone to know how he was feeling. He was a proud man. He quit smoking a few (two) years ago, but it got him anyway.
Bob talked me into quitting in January. Thanks you Bob!

Side Note:

I have been missing from the Forum for quite some time now. Both from the State Forced Imminent Domain Move, and from my own illness. Looks like the Doctors got it all, and I am feeling a heck of a lot better. Just a little more Kemp to go.

I will be back in the Shop soon, and doing everything in my power to honor Mr. Bob in making the Lovett-Loveless Connection Knives the very best I possibly can. The way Bob Loveless and Jim Merritt taught me. To be true to Bob Loveless.

I can never thank Bob Loveless enough. The Man changed my life forever.
My Father died a few years back. Mr. Bob was always there to give advice and encouragement. He was the closest thing I could have to a second Father.

I called his Shop last night. I knew he was gone, but I just let it ring a little while anyway. I could picture his office, and hear the phone ring in my mind. For a moment, he was still there. He will always be there too me.

I have been away for some time now,

A legend, great knife maker, he will be missed and remembered. My condolences to his family.

Stunned to hear that over on this side of the pond. He was one of those guys who you simply wanted to live forever!

Bob Loveless was a major part of the foundation on which
modern cutlery design developed.

It is also a fact that some of his designs can be considered
the most inspiring and most copied by other knifemakers
from all around the world...

I was lucky to have met him several times at the San Diego
Art Knife Invitational where I had the chance to handle several
of his as-close-to-perfect-as-can-be knives.

His knife art will remain an inspiration for knifemakers for
generations to come.

An amazing artist who has preceded us to the knife shop up yonder, some say his knives were about as close to heaven as you could get on earth, maybe he and Gabriel are talking over details right now, may he rest in peace

I have shed a lot of tears this year, and now more for a complete stranger. I thank Mr. Loveless for inspiring me to take a chance and start this long journey of knife making. My heart and thoughts go out to his family and friends.

On behalf of Yoshiko Loveless, Bob's wife, our family would like to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We are all very sadden by his passing. He will be greatly missed not only by his family but his friends and collegues as well. We are all very very proud of him and his accomplishments and so greatful that each and everyone of you have chosen to share your thoughts with us about Bob. ...maybe he and Gabriel are talking over details right now...

I'm sure he'll be helping ol' Gabe design a new sword, likely with a subhilt, and a bowie blade.

Rest In Peace. I feel privleged to have met you, and will always remember.

My favorite blade design of All Time: Loveless Drop-point Hunter.

A Master of the craft..... prayers and condolences to his family and close friends. May he rest peacefully, in that better place.....

Very sad. We truly lost one of the great ones. His influence on knifemaking can never be overestimated.

Rest in peace Bob.

What he accomplished for the knife community will not be repeated. What he represented will endure as long as knife-makers, users and collectors are around.

My prayers and condolences go out to his family.

I've never seen one of his knives in person, and even as new as I am to knifemaking I've heard and seen his legendary work. He definitely left a legacy for the rest of the knife makers and collectors to admire.
