Boker/Carothers collaboration coming soon?

Nathan is now a freelance designer for Boker, this is not a knock off.

This Boker model provides an opportunity for people with less disposable income to enjoy the genius behind Nathan's design. I have two folders with Boker and I can tell you that company does an excellent job in their work with makers/designers. I love that Nathan and I are Boker Bros now!
While this is great, limiting production to 1999 pieces worldwide, seems to limit that reach.

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist
Was it part of the agreement, to make it a limited production run?

They do limited production runs of signature pieces by various knife designers. There's an entire series of knives like this.

They contacted me, and I liked the idea for this particular pattern.

I am being compensated but it is a small amount, it's not why I did this. This was an experiment for me, collaborating with them like this, with one of the goals being exposure to a different audience and also making this particular pattern more accessible.

We shall see.

If memory serves, Boker's Magnum line is mostly made in China and Taiwan factories.

Shouldn't be a surprise really.

Is there a difference between those two countries?

I wish they were more specific with location.
Almost like just saying made on Earth......

I know Spyderco has a facility in Taichung Taiwan that makes some of their knives. Haven’t kept up on current news, but over a decade ago, the Taiwan facility was considered to produce some of their best knives (I have the Phil Wilson S90V Spyderco Sprig that was made in that facility, that’s my kitchen utility knife).

No real familiarity with knives made in China.

Fully agree with what you said
-Im not going to bring up politics.
I'd prefer Taiwan, Korea, or Japan instead of "Asia"

That's like buying something over here and it says "The Americas" what does that mean???

My initial post asking if the CPK family was moving to Asia was merely sarcasm, AKA: Smart-ass-ness-ism. I apologize to all who took my attempt for a laugh out of context.

Good on you CPK for getting your name out via Boker and still making a little coin. Not ALL are currently in a position to purchase a knife of authentic caliber but this gives them a chance to experience CPK design until they are able to. We all know that Boker steel cannot compare with the steel CPK uses even using CPK design. Also that Boker knives will NEVER be as tough or receive the "love" a knife made at the homeship receives by the CPK team in the good ole USA.

I am fairly new to the CPK family. I always wanted one but availability and secondary prices inhibited me. Thank you to dtmbinb dtmbinb for proxying me and showing me that the CPK hype is legitimate. I am so friggen excited to grow my CPK collection further. I have a FBFK & SC on preorder, and a GG EDC hopefully being delivered soon. 😬

Last but not least about CPK ... Jo the Machinist Jo the Machinist ... thank you for all your help with my orders - you also lived up to all the accolades others have spoke. Thank you 🫡

I think its cool to make a more affordable model for the general masses. But even at $180 that is cost prohibitive for a lot of (non knife people) people.

Even though my brother could afford this there is no way he would pay even $180 for a knife. But A lot more people are more apt to spend that than the $600 that one goes for on the secondary market. And yes I think the originals are worth $600.

Heck I think I may even get one of the Boker models to gift to my brother and see what he thinks. Ive tried giving him an original CPK but he just tells me he would sell it and keep the money as nobody needs a knife that costs more than $50. Im pretty sure we came from the same Moma but I sure do like nice knives. Ill have to tell him it only cost $50 so he would keep it:)

I would hope that most members here would have enough respect for Nathan, Jo and CPK to not make snide remarks of a political nature, nor call into question their business decisions which are theirs to make, and theirs alone. If you are not interested in purchasing a sanctioned Boker reproduction of a CPK, so be it, but leave off the baggage. This is their living room, and not a romper room.

I'm posting this as a member of this community, not in my capacity as a mod. (I hope to leave it at that.)

Seriously, I appreciate this message.

As far as the knife goes, I'm considering getting one for a friend who has decent knives... but puts them in the dishwasher

There's no way that's a 4.9" blade unless it's literally just been shrunk in all dimensions compared to the UF2, but it'd be nice to get confirmation from Nathan whether there are any dimensional differences, or just materials differences

I find it strange to have Asia listed versus the country where made. I recently looked at Boker knives which had the actual country listed, such as Germany and China.

Edit:
Glad to see BladeHQ has China listed for clarification.
