The new Bond movie,Quantum of Solace, opens in the USA tomorrow. I am told there is a scene in which Bond is disarmed by M and hands over a sheathed fixed blade, aparently either a Gerber Guardian or an S&W HRT boot knife. What do you think it is?( I'm not referring to the MOD Triton in the trailer).
Thanks.

Jason Bourne has no trouble kicking ass with a rolled up magazine
Jason Bourne doesn't drive an Aston Martin... Come on, a Gerber or S&W blade for Bond? That's B.S. That'd be like John Rambo using a SAK in a movie or the Terminator shooting a .22 caliber Derringer. It just doesn't fit the character.

I'm not sure whether the Triton is used by Bond or against Bond. The knife in question was described as a sheathed fixed blade being turned in when M disarms Bond, glimpsed very quickly, likely either the Smith or Gerber. Brosnan used a Gerber MKI,or copy thereof
in one film.
As to the real life aspects of either blade, they're both common and not expensive, therefore disposable and not easily traceable, useful for a spy.

Bond wouldn't carry a Gerber or a S&W- that would be a major oversight on the prop department's part. My bet would be on a custom. Although an old-school Gerber Guardian would be plausible, I guess. The old ones were actually pretty decent. Bond would know the difference.

And it's funny that Bond has to turn in his knife. Usually cops have to hand in their badge and their gun. Secret agents have to turn in their KNIVES, too? I guess even a man with a license to kill doesn't get to carry a knife in England unless he's on assignment.

Given that Fleming's Bond originally carried a Model 418 Beretta in .25 ACP -- it's anemic ballistics further impaired by the barrel being shortened -- we have to assume that 007 is capable of using a great many weapons we would deem inadequate with deadly effect.

Thankfully, in the world of fiction at least, this all works out O.K. for the perennial hero. :)

It only looks like theyre inadequate--to further confuse the enemy. In fact who knows what upgrades Q has worked on everything... :)

The gun had had its front sight removed- I'm pretty sure that's what Fleming meant by "sawing the barrel"
Also, Bond's Beretta proves to be woefully inadequate most of the time, and Fleming often makes reference to its limited range. Bond uses a larger gun several times, and eventually switches over to the much more powerful Walther PPK.
As for the knife, while it's not particularily Bond-ish, a Smith & Wesson or Gerber boot knife does make sense- cheap and servicable. Remember, James Bond doesn't use a knife for opening packages- he uses it for opening jugulars.

Obviously he turned in the crappy blade he picked up at wal mart to fool M and kept his good one hidden someplace.

Yes, in fact Q modified his PPK to shoot 400 Cor-Bon!

I'm enjoying the responses. Now, what would you have Bond carry for blades? 3 categories: multitool, folder, fixed(as a CCW). Let's keep it to production blades,OK?

For the record, Bond would carry a CRK! End of story. Classy, effective, and a very good knife to skin Jaws alive with.

But, to bring up the point, why would Bond need a knife for utilitarian purposes? His watch has a freakin' laser. :D

And by saying he was carrying a Smith & Wesson, I didn't mean it lacked potential lethality, I just thought that James Bond would carry something very expensive, very classy. It's like him driving that Ford in Casino Royale before he gets his vintage Aston Martin. Expensive watches, bespoke suits and black dinner jackets, classy cars and shiny Heckler & Koch automatics for the down-and-dirty killing parts. James Bond wouldn't carry a Gerber, or S&W. He'd have a Hinderer, a Nealy, or a Crawford, at the very least. :)
