Expensive watches, bespoke suits and black dinner jackets, classy cars and shiny Heckler & Koch automatics for the down-and-dirty killing parts.![]()
He used the P99 in Casino Royale; there's a promotional still for Quantum of Solace that shows him with the Walther PPK.
Rick, I would steer clear of the Walther 9mm. It's just a tarted up version of the SW99, and I wouldn't consider it a top-shelf weapon. There are a lot better guns out there on the market- Glock, Springfield, S&W, HK, Sig, etc. I had a bad experience with the smaller version of the P99 (the P22)- which is a different pistol, but it gave me a bad taste in my mouth for polymer-framed Walthers. The engineering is flawed, IMO- the tip of the hammer is involved with the mechanism- it wears against the slide, and it can cause the weapon to seize up, and eventually wears out so the gun no longer cycles completely. After about 20,000 rounds, my P22 developed reliability issues related to the hammer/ slide relationship. I stoned the top of the hammer just a bit, so it would clear the slide, and now the gun no longer functions at all. It's a very bizarre design.
The P99 is striker fired, so it might be better, but I believe the overall mechanism is similar. I wouldn't trust it.
Thanks for the tip. I have a Sig Sauer 9mm. I just thought the Walther was a good quality gun. You say you fired 20,000 rounds through your Walther. That's alot of bullets, and alot of dough. I wish I had the time to get out to the range more too. Do you like the ergonomics (or feel of) the Sig autos. They are my favorite, and fit in my hand really well.
20,000 rounds of .22LR isn't all that much. .22LR is cheap. I would go through at least a brick of 500 rounds almost every weekend at the range- for around a year before my little P22 gave out on me. When it worked, I loved it- it was super fast and accurate- I could make it do a pretty good impression of a full-auto, like Rob Latham- except he does it with a .45. To be fair to the Walther, I did run it pretty hard. But I maintained it with great care until it essentially wore out.
I LOVE Sigs. I have a P220 in .45 and it's a fantastic weapon. I'll take a P220 over any 1911, any day of the week and twice on Sunday. it's a big, tough, exquisitely made, ergonomic and accurate weapon. It is a boat anchor to haul around, however. I'd like to get a Sig P226, but I spend too much money on knives to buy any more guns nowadays. My favorite handguns are Glocks, Sigs, and S&W revolvers, with the Glock 19 being my very favorite. Bond should carry a Glock. But they're not sexy enough for him.
in one of the novels he was issued a blade or blades made by wilkinson.
