Bond's knife in QOS

James Bond wouldn't carry a Gerber, or S&W. He'd have a Hinderer, a Nealy, or a Crawford, at the very least.
why not, after all he wears Omega which is quite far from Patek or Breguet

Of COURSE Bond turns in his knife. He lives in England.

Bond upgrades through the years, he upgrades from .25 cal Beretta to .380 Walther PPK, to a Walther 9mm. He has used a Gerber Guardian in some films. He used a small throwing knife, that sprang out of his briefcase in one movie. The Gerber guardian is of course a Bob Loveless design. He designed it for young ladies in California, after a series of women were raped in the Bay area in the 1970's going to their cars at night. The nice knife Bond takes away from the bad guy in Casino Royale, and knifed him with, is a Makov Auto. They are not that expensive. It is nice to teach peolple lessons with their own knives. Why confuse the issue.

Expensive watches, bespoke suits and black dinner jackets, classy cars and shiny Heckler & Koch automatics for the down-and-dirty killing parts. :)

Actually, I believe Bond carries a Walther P99 these days. Serviceable, but certainly not the classiest or hippest pistol on the market. It seems like Bond's gear is selected primarily based on how "cool" it looks on film, not by what would work best or what such a person would actually carry.

Bond should carry a H&K or a Sig, and a for a knife, he would probably use something relatively common, that would be difficult to trace if he had to ditch it. Something local to the area where he was operating in would be a good choice. Bond probably wouldn't carry a Busse or a Hinderer- they're too specialized and scarce- they scream "Westerner!". Sterile customs would work nicely, though, provided they weren't made in a signature style by a famous maker.

He used the P99 in Casino Royale; there's a promotional still for Quantum of Solace that shows him with the Walther PPK.

No kidding, remember he changed guns during Pierce Bronson's stint as Bond. He needed more firepower per M. I liked Pierce Bronson alot. He was the berries. He had a comedy movie a couple of years ago in which he played an assasin. He used William Henry knives in that movie. I'm going to see the movie very very soon with my girlfriend, who loves James Bond movies. It seems that no matter how violent, the handsome guy can do anything and women love it.

In a post about guns the other day I was mentioning I wanted to get a Walther 9mm. They aren't giving them away, but they are a good quality pistol.

Rick, I would steer clear of the Walther 9mm. It's just a tarted up version of the SW99, and I wouldn't consider it a top-shelf weapon. There are a lot better guns out there on the market- Glock, Springfield, S&W, HK, Sig, etc. I had a bad experience with the smaller version of the P99 (the P22)- which is a different pistol, but it gave me a bad taste in my mouth for polymer-framed Walthers. The engineering is flawed, IMO- the tip of the hammer is involved with the mechanism- it wears against the slide, and it can cause the weapon to seize up, and eventually wears out so the gun no longer cycles completely. After about 20,000 rounds, my P22 developed reliability issues related to the hammer/ slide relationship. I stoned the top of the hammer just a bit, so it would clear the slide, and now the gun no longer functions at all. It's a very bizarre design.
The P99 is striker fired, so it might be better, but I believe the overall mechanism is similar. I wouldn't trust it.

Thanks for the tip. I have a Sig Sauer 9mm. I just thought the Walther was a good quality gun. You say you fired 20,000 rounds through your Walther. That's alot of bullets, and alot of dough. I wish I had the time to get out to the range more too. Do you like the ergonomics (or feel of) the Sig autos. They are my favorite, and fit in my hand really well.

If the Guardian is good enough for Angelina in Tomb Raider it's good enough for the new Bond! Connery could have used a butter knife:)

20,000 rounds of .22LR isn't all that much. .22LR is cheap. I would go through at least a brick of 500 rounds almost every weekend at the range- for around a year before my little P22 gave out on me. When it worked, I loved it- it was super fast and accurate- I could make it do a pretty good impression of a full-auto, like Rob Latham- except he does it with a .45. To be fair to the Walther, I did run it pretty hard. But I maintained it with great care until it essentially wore out.

I LOVE Sigs. I have a P220 in .45 and it's a fantastic weapon. I'll take a P220 over any 1911, any day of the week and twice on Sunday. it's a big, tough, exquisitely made, ergonomic and accurate weapon. It is a boat anchor to haul around, however. I'd like to get a Sig P226, but I spend too much money on knives to buy any more guns nowadays. My favorite handguns are Glocks, Sigs, and S&W revolvers, with the Glock 19 being my very favorite. Bond should carry a Glock. But they're not sexy enough for him.

Oh, my mistake. I thought it was 9mm ammo, which is more expensive. I shoot .22 as well in rifle only. It is pretty fun plinking with .22 all day long. I want a Al Mar Shiva so bad I can taste it. I want a Omega Seamaster like James Bond wears as well. The police have Glocks and they are a good weapon.

in one of the novels he was issued a blade or blades made by wilkinson.

Nice find, do you recall the book? Somewhere i read that originally the author didn't want Bond to be involved with knives. I don't know where, and I thought it was not right. The idea of using knives was considered barberic in some circles.

I own a Walther P99 .40 and my father owns the P22. They look similar, but really don't have much in common other than aesthetics. I definitely would not judge a P99 based on any experiences with a P22. The P22 has some fairly well known issues, but I've been very pleased with my P99 and consider it a step up from a Glock.

Sorry for the OT post, but I just had to defend my Walther.
