Bond's knife in QOS

Saw the movie today. I recommend it. At first viewing, the knife, turned in to M, in Bond's hotel room in Bolivia, looks more like a sheathed Gerber Guardian, held sheath tip up.I could be wrong though.Extremely brief look.
rick43t3, the Wilkinsons mentioned in the books were either commando daggers used underwater or maybe the attache case knives in From Russia with Love;I can't be precise
as my Bond novels are packed away at present.

As to the guns in QOS, Craig mostly uses the PPK, also a Sig P226 and P210 and the UMP
from CR.

Actually, I believe Bond carries a Walther P99 these days. Serviceable, but certainly not the classiest or hippest pistol on the market. It seems like Bond's gear is selected primarily based on how "cool" it looks on film, not by what would work best or what such a person would actually carry.

Bond should carry a H&K or a Sig, and a for a knife, he would probably use something relatively common, that would be difficult to trace if he had to ditch it. Something local to the area where he was operating in would be a good choice. Bond probably wouldn't carry a Busse or a Hinderer- they're too specialized and scarce- they scream "Westerner!". Sterile customs would work nicely, though, provided they weren't made in a signature style by a famous maker.

Saw the movie today. He was back using the original PPK again. Seems like he picked up and used the Walther 9mm in a few scenes though.

I noticed that as well. Personally I think the P99 worked better for Craig's character, but that's just me.

As for the knife, I saw the movie last night and it looks to me like the Smith and Wesson HRT boot knife. I carry it myself, and the look of the sheath matched mine. I could be wrong though.........

Nice find, do you recall the book? Somewhere i read that originally the author didn't want Bond to be involved with knives. I don't know where, and I thought it was not right. The idea of using knives was considered barberic in some circles.

i'll look it up here in a few!

The knife made by Wilkinson's was a throwing knife hidden in the spine of his briefcase in From Russia With Love. He uses it to kill Nash
By the way, who are Wilkinson's?

Oh, nice,I have a Sig 226. I bought it about 9 years ago. Some of the guys at work went to Wolf Firing Range in Manchester NH. We test fired several guns each, and decided what we like best. The Sig 226 was my gun. I love it. The 9mm is a good cal. bullet. I have no problem with it. Thanks for the info, I will be seeing the movie sometime this week too. I want one of the limited edition Omega watches, but they are alot of cabbage.

I was unclear about my "shiny Heckler & Koch automatics" reference. I was referring to the H&K UMP-series submachine gun Bond used in the end of Casino Royale against Mr. White. :D

The knife shown in this link was used by someone who attacked Bond. He disarmed the guy and used it against him. I did not catch the knife that he gave up when M told him to turn over all his weapons.

I love that knife. I can't get enough of Bond. It's funny, not many people don't like James bond movies. My buddy, who dosen't watch much tv or movies, like james bond alot. My girlfriend loves Bond movies. This is great entertainment for everyone. The good guy always wins, that being Bond, but sometimes he has losses along the way. In quite a few of his films his girlfriends are killed by the culprits. Goldfinger, Casino Royale, Dr. No , For Your Eyes Only. he always kills the bad guys who do these terrible things though, but he is always very saddened by these girls deaths.

In one book by Ian Fleming, the PPK is replaced by the HK VP70 to be standard carry for Bond.

My god, I just looked this up. The "M" version is for military and is a machine pistol capable of 3 round bursts, and 2200 rounds per minute rate of fire in this mode. It only holds 18 rounds, but it can be a very fine weapon.

I had a bad experience with the smaller version of the P99 (the P22)- which is a different pistol, but it gave me a bad taste in my mouth for polymer-framed Walthers.

You're right the P22 is an entirely DIFFERENT pistol. It has nothing in commonw with the P99 which is a fine 9MM pistol. I don't own one, so I don't have a dog in the fight, but I've shot a friend's and would have no problem owning one.

I would NOT buy a P22. Cheap, pot metal junk.

Saw the movie. It was another guy attacking Bond, and does get in a hit on his arm with it. Bond tears his shirt and puts on a bandage/tourniquet, after the fight. I thought it was a Benchmade Infidel, but I guess from above it's an MOD Triton. They are similar. I don't recall a knife being with his gun when he turns it in to M, but I could have missed it. Good flick.

So Bond carried a HK VP70? That is quite a pistol, even if it is a bit bulky.

It's much like the Beretta 93-R that Mack Bolan of "The Executioner" series carries. Both are very cool, very unique designs in my opinion.

My impression is that Hollywood prop people tend to buy cheap knives from the Pomona flea market or similar. There are exceptions like Rambo, who was somewhat of a knife afficianodo(Segal is too, I think). It would not surprise me if Bond carried a cheap S&W blade.

He really should have a Rockstead Wilderness-Hunter (see thread by Ryosuke).

BTW, for those who don't know the current actor who plays Bond is very anti-gun in real life.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-366497/Bond-pussy-galore-comes-guns.html
