Boom Parang. . . . . . Sneak Peek!!! . . . Pics & Specs . . .

Awesome Boss. Thanks for the updated pic.
I took a pic against the Team Gemini and the ASH 1 for comparison. . . . Not a great pic but you get the idea. . . . .

The Boom Parang is an awesome chopper with incredible balance!!!

Hope this helps,

Nice. That picture did it for me. I'm in. Gonna be dead sexy when it's released in satin!!

That helps immensely....

Thanks for the pic.

We still need to know the weight . . . I think that might be the most important spec

This might depend on whether you prefer a lighter, faster blade for chopping, or heavier, slower one. The 1311 will fall towards the former, and this parang, which has more steel behind the edge (taller blade at equal thickness), is the latter.

I already have too many choppers, but this one has me looking to see what else I can sell to fund the Parang.

The B13 will almost certainly be better for batoning wood. The tall Parang blade means a lot of surface contact/friction as you try to beat it down the length of a cut wood section.

Looks like I need to revise my speculation. With SpyderPhreak's and Jerry's comparison pics now up, it seems that the Parang is not as wide as I had thought. So it probably won't bind any more than those other blades when batonning. As far as chopping vs a 1311, we are just going to have to wait and see, methinks.

Both will cut better with an improved edge profile. Geometry cuts.

The nice thing about that pic is that anyone with a TGLB and/or ASH1 can now scale the Parang to any of their own blades by overlaying the pics.

That Parang handle is tiny compared to everything I laid it up against. The shape of the blade makes the edge seem a lot longer than battle mistresses I checked it against imo. The 1.6 and 1.8 figures make more sense now as well.

I've been able to resist so far, but I agree with Rob, the weight might push me over the edge.

If you sold me the that Battlesaw you could buy 2 parangs with money to spare.... I know you won't bite but I had to try

NOT happening! :p But you already knew that! ;) The Battle Saw became an instant keeper as soon as I opened the box. Sorry. (Not really...:D)

This was a really helpful post to put things in perspective. Thanks.

NP. I needed it for myself, and figured it would be helpful to others.

I think the 1311 will do better. Edge geometry should be pretty much identical, and the 1311 will have a bit more mass behind the cut during a chop. Now compared to a 1111, that's an entirely different story.

Either way, no doubt this will be a great knife!!! SO many great choppers to come out of Waseon the past few years!!!

Thanks for the better comparison pic Bossman!!!

After some soul searching and reflection on the important things in life...

Like this bacon:

I realized the sane thing to do was to listen to my gut and check this one out. In for a tanker/maroon.

Hey Bossman, I don't think I've seen any explanation, or anyone ask. Is the "Boom" an acronym, or does it mean anything? Or is it just part of a cool name?

There are NO plans for this in the foreseeable future.

Lets drink!!!:D

Jerry:D

Damn. Oh well.

It's a good thing that you've forged my patience to a keen edge over the last "two weeks", Boss :D

I'll be ready...

Boomerang.
Boom-Parang.

If anything it's your literary wit that keeps me slopping at the trough,
As much as all the delicious bacon to sate my endless appetite.

I'm thinking this will make for a great stripper, even better if I turn the flat ground portion into a thinner convex.

Put some teeth the top of it, like the battle saw, and you may have something Jerry... :) MORE TEETH JERRY love my Battle saw... but one less tooth would be better it hits your thumb.. ouch
