Who makes really good work boots?

You Hogs have great taste, and I'd like to hear your opinion on boots.

Red Wing boots use to be my #1 choice,,,,,,, but now that I've found Wesco ,,,,,,,, there is no comparison. Wesco are all handmade, and custom fit if your willing to pay a little extra,, they can be totally customized,,, look here http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/ They are the absolutely best built and best fitting boots I've ever worn,,,they are the 2 black pair,,,,,the ones in the back are RedWings

Funny, Imagine started a thread over at the Swamp on the same topic.
A well made pair of boots should not have to be "broken in" This is a myth. They should fit correctly from the store. Try on numerous pairs of boots until you find a pair that works for you. I have owned more boots than I can count. I finally settled on a Red Wing model. They are like slippers on my feet. I like redundancy. I like redundancy.

Depends on what kind of work you are doing. If you have narrow feet and need ankle support, say you walk alot and aren't getting oil on them I would say Lowa, they make boots that fill a lot of areas. Danner and Rocky also make good boots. It really depends on what kind of work.

i wear some wolverines!! the high end!! they take so long to break in, but have a great sole..... i have problems with steel chips from the mill and lathe!!

I wear Limmer's.

They're on my feet 12+ hours a day. I wear them on the bike, work and woods.

The pair I have on now is about to get it's third set of soles.

They work for me.

Look into RM Williams. Might find something you like there. Supposed to be some of the best boots in the world. Differet aesthetics than typical workboots, though.

Danner is the best for me, and I've tried about every brand. It really comes down to you and what you need though.
BTW, Redwing is a very well made boot, but I could never stand the way they fit me.

I buy redwing, but mostly because I like to buy US made and their stores are easy to find. I happen to have relatively wide toes for my heel , so it takes alot of tries to find a perfect fit, the redwings I've tried have all been relatively narrow/medium toe and medium/wide heel.

I'm watching this one closely, looking for consensus, especially for narrow feet...

I've been wearing Iron Age work boots for many years. They wear good for me and I've seen them out-last many other brands.

I have a few pair of Redwing steel toes that I like alot. Use them for work when I am out in the shop and they are very comfortable.

My opinion is slightly skewed though because we get free pair of boots from the redwing store.

Danner Rainforests are the only boot I've gotten more than one season out of.
I used to wear Red Wings but I'd go through a pair in less than a year. It doesn't matter how well I maintain the leather, my boots always blow out on the outside edge where the toes bend. Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done about this failure and foot support is lost so they get junked. Danners have held up the best for me.

I still have a pair of Danners that I was able to get re-stitched where the threads were going and they've also had the shanks and counters replaced. They are finally starting to crack more at the toe bend so I might have to start looking for a new pair.

The ONLY thing I miss about the Red Wings is that they are unlined. Gore-Tex lined boots SUCK when your a sweaty footed bastid:barf:

Yeah, here in FL plain unlined leather with a good wicking sock is the best stuff for work. No insulation holding heat in and no goretex keeping half a gallon of foot sweat in the boot. The plain leather insides tend to last much longer with me too, I wear linings out in a hurry for some reason.

I work in industrial construction and I am hard on boots. Red Wings are good but make sure you get the ones made in the U.S. now alot of them are made in China and they are crap.
I have been wearing Thorogood boots for about 2 yrs now, they are union made in the U.S.A. and are costly but worth it when you work 12hr.days
The only problem is the only place I can find them is online so you can't try try them on.
Here is the web sight I get mine from http://www.thebootpro.com/

RED WING BOOTS... find a store and walk in, the customer service is amazing, they will ask you a bunch of questions and do some measurements... you will get exactly what you need... their guarantee is almost as good as Jerry's

Red Wing are the best...but the most expensive. Wolverines and Rocky are less expensive but still good quality.
