Boots

I love my Limmer custom boots.
Best hiking boot made, period.

I had a pair of Limmers.Swiss climbing boots. Very well made.

On the leisure side, there's nothing like a pair of well made Mocassins from Maine.

I really like my White's packers. My only wishes are that they were lighter (swinging my legs at speed it sometimes feels like they're going to pull my leg in half at the knee) and a hair cooler (they got a little warm working on the siding of a house in full sun here in CA).

Hey guys,

I don't post too often, but this is a subject that I can relate to!!!!

I have worked on the pipeline for the past 20 years. Mostly on large, federally funded sewer projects for local municipalities in Virginia an West Virginia. This includes a lot of "rehab" projects. Waterproof takes on a whole new meaning when you are standing in sewer, trust me.

I wore Rocky boots for a number of years until I had a problem with a pair and actually contacted them about it. I only had the boots for about a month and the soles started to bust open like a "bloomin' onion." The lady in customer support informed me that the PVC soles on that particular boot tended to do that when exposed to excessive moisture and that I should have purchased a more expensive model with a rubber sole. I quickly, informed her that if I spent the money that I earned "standing in crap" on a waterproof boot that fell apart when it got wet I would not be "upgrading" or purchasing any more of their boots. Nuff said!!!

As far as what I like, I am currently sold on Danners. The made in the USA models are not cheap, but worth every penny. As for comfort, I have a wide foot, and wear a 12EE, but I am sure that a size that "fits" you would not require any break in, same as mine.

Good luck with the boots. The search is just as hard as finding the right woman. Although, a wrong choice won't cost you more than a couple hundred and sore feet. Wait, I have had women that fit that description, also!!!!! OK, If you pick the wrong boot you won't have to hire a lawyer and will only be out the initial investment.

Good luck!!

When I worked for Roto-Rooter, which involved a lot of standing in crap, as well as other waste and by-products from factories when we would be doing pump jobs, I always favored Wellingtons. Boot sealer of any well made brand and Thompsons water seal on top of that worked wonders. I don't remember the brand I last bought, but they were $70.00 at Boot World here in Dayton, OH. I gave them hell and they showed when I retired them. If the boots I bought lasted 4 months at the most, I was happy. I started wearing some JC PEnney black 6" steel toe gen construction that were7 years old at the time. One day I was standing in poo and I crouched down, lifting my heels when a co-worker noticed he could see my sock through my boot. Was not happy! My favorite boots had finally but the dust. They weren;t made for anything like that, so I should have known better. Actually I just patched them with some mil-spec duct tape, about 4 layers would last one week, with a little bit of cardboard or some plastic from a clamshell package in the middle. After that I had some Rocky brand boots that definitely didn't last as far as waterproof goes. I put rubber booties on if I had to stand in anything deeper than ankle-high until I got the wellies.

Man, those Whites look nice... Have you actually worn them, or just admired from a distance?

Eli,

I special ordered a pair of Whites:thumbdn: that cost around $450.00 I tried breaking the D--- thngs in for 8 months and said the hell with this. Most stinking uncomfortable boot I ever put on my feet. Spent over 15+ years in combat boots and would take those anyday of the week over Whites.

I wish I could find a boot manufactor that made boot for a 15 Narrow (15A) but not found one yet.

Good luck if you go White.

15A??? Wow bro, you got it worse than i do :D

Yeah, I just can't spend that much on a boot I can't at least find a showroom for (closest one was in OK City.)

I can honestly say I feel your pain trying to find an odd sized boot....you are the polar opposite from me...I have the damn hardest time finding a size 7-4E :) Most of the time I have to settle for size 7.5-3E. Every so often I'm lucky and find someone with a 3E that is really cut like a 4E but it is rare :grumpy:
