Boots

Danner Rainforests are the only boot I've gotten more than one season out of.

Danners have held up the best for me.

Gore-Tex lined boots SUCK when your a sweaty footed bastid:barf:

2nd that motion completely!

IMHO Danners are the best. Pricey but worth it. The Rainforests Kevin mentioned are their top of the line unless somethings changed.

GREAT BOOTS and DITTO on the sweaty footed bastid!

i wear some wolverines!! the high end!! they take so long to break in, but have a great sole..... i have problems with steel chips from the mill and lathe!!

I also second the wolverines, and yes they do take a DAMN long time to wear in but they are so worth it. My selection is rather limited in the boot world due to my wide foot. I need a 4E on anything I buy. Wolverine's 3E wears much wider so Im always able to find something I can wear from them.

Great leather, especially the ones with pigskin upper sections.

I'm also a fan of Timberland when i can find a "wide" that is closer to a 4E than the stated 3E equivalent. Keep in mind, Timberland has partly went ghetto but they do indeed still make some really nice non-ghetto boots these days. If you can get a pair you like, they will last you years just like the Wolverines.

If I had to say which one was higher quality all around, Wolverine takes the show.

Redwings. I worked for a construction company for 37 years and Redwings were more comfortable and outlasted anything else that I tried.

Drue

FWIW, the boots in the pic I posted are, center pair, 4 years old, left pair (with the knife) 3 years, and the right pair is about 7 months old. I am a landscape contractor and I work outside everyday. The boots get rotated. The oldest pair is on its third sole. I keep them sealed with snoseal. I weight 230. That matters. I go through a sole in just over a year, say 14 months. If you weigh less and wear the boots less often, that will, obviously, be a factor.

I have a pair of Chippewa 25290's. Slippers out of the box. Made in USA.

I have narrow feet and for me Danner Acadie Elite are the best. They are light water proof and the most comfortable boot I've ever worn.

Red Wing boots use to be my #1 choice,,,,,,, but now that I've found Wesco ,,,,,,,, there is no comparison. Wesco are all handmade, and custom fit if your willing to pay a little extra,, they can be totally customized,,, look here http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/ They are the absolutely best built and best fitting boots I've ever worn,,,they are the 2 black pair,,,,,the ones in the back are RedWings

Ronnie, added that link to my favorites to look them over. Nothing like handmade leather. I see your from Ma. also.

Wesco
Danner (not the newer made in China versions)
Red Wings

In that order.

Danner changed the last of the boots when they shipped the manufacturing overseas. Boots that may have fit well when made in the USA may not fit the same now that they are made in China.

I just bought a pair of Carolina work boots from STP a few days ago...scheduled to get them tomorrow

I'll let you know how they are :D

I am NaviHawk,,,,,,,,,, and those boots ARE the BEST........ real pricey though,,,,, they offer them in reg. sizes or for an extra $75. they send you a measuring kit. you trace your foot and measure around approx 20 or so places , and they build em to fit exactly. WELL WORTH IT. No break in period,,,,,they fit perfectly. You will be paying over $500. a pair though.Stock boots,,,,not customised or custom fit can be purchased for a bit cheaper,,,,like $350,,,,plus, depending on which style.

I love Chippewa boots. Extremely comfortable and tough. Again, make sure you get the ones made in the US as some models are now made in China.

The Chinese Danners are typically the light hiking styles with glue up construction.
I have tried them and they are NOT made using the same lasts as the US stitch down models. They vary in fit and for outside work they won't last 6 months.

I've noticed that if they are all roundy and fashion styled, smooth, glued on soles, etc. ...Chinese

Crude looking, rigid, lot's of thread, stiched down construction, thick leather...USA:thumbup:

The Rainforest is now offered in a double thick leather vamp. This might be a solution to my EE toe bend blowouts:D

The Wesco custom fit process is sooooo appealing to me at 7.5 4E, but darn I dont see any 6" styles :(

They absolutely do make 6" ers. ,,,,,,,,The Jobmaster has a 6 inch height option. You must go to the *Demo Build Your Boots* link, can pick leather color (even 2-tone) height, thread color, lacing patterns heel height + or - lifts, sole , linings, etc. etc . etc.

I looked for other styles in such a short height,,,,,,, pretty sure the Jobmaster is the only one. However they're great boots.

I've been wearing a pair of Asolo all-leather uppers Hikers for 8 years. Aside from looking "unnew", they are in perfect condition. The sole is perfect, no cracks or lines in the leather and the integrity of the shoe in regards to the support they offered new, is still like new.
They were about $180 when I bought them new and it was money well spent.

nice! I had only looked at the summary page for each model. Thanks!

Not sure what kind of boots we are talking about, but I love Danners and Redwings. If you don't mind laying down some cash, check out Whites.

I would like to try Filson boots, but haven't coughed up the dough for those yet.

+1 on the Red Wings. They might cost a fortune but they last forever and are definitely worth it.
