Bose/Case yearly releases

The 2005 LB whittler is my favorite, I prefer it's lighter secondary springs over the later version. In my experience the lock on the main functions better on the 2005 version, possibly because of the softer springs. I think you'll be very happy.

Those are beauties right there! thanks for the images sir!

And Eric it's the 2005 version that will be on it's way this week, with stag scales, I'll see how a sheath will work with that folder, contours dictate how and what I do.

This is my experience also. The secondary blade springs on my 2005 are a little light, but don't hinder the knife's performance. The 2014 springs are stiffer and the lock is harder to depress.

Great images, Chief!

Slimline Trapper in Damascus, Tribal Spear, Lanny's Clip, Dog Leg Jack, Pruner, Arkansas Hunter, are the ones I've purchased. I still have the Trapper, Tribal Spear, and Lanny's Clip (the best of the bunch). I missed Blade this year, so didn't get to handle the Cattle Knife..it will be a winner if they get the blades right (not hitting each other).

The Whittler arrived today, impressive main blade there, overall it is a marvel of invention, great design Tony! While the two smaller blades do have lighter pulls on the springs, they are not too soft, could stand to be a bit stronger but tis what it tis. Both smaller blades have blade play, the pen being the most, after putting some oil on the joints the coping blade seemed better, but not the pen. Appears that possibly the tang was ground off slightly so it isn't captured as well, I'll not try to squish it, but I guess I'll live with it's play. The main blade is stout, no play whatsoever.

The ATS-34 does take a nice sharp edge, I did a little whittling with the coping blade, I sharpened her up and she did get sharp!

and just a couple images for now, will take some better ones when I can get setup for them.

Looks a lot like mine, Gary. No play in any of the blades on mine though. Maybe a call to Case is in order. They know that knife cost a pretty penny.

Thanks Gary, good idea but 10 years is a long time to contact now, the side to side play on the pen is not gross, but there, livable I guess.

I was just looking at pictures of the 2015 Case/Bose knife in the Fall Catalog - it's a Cattle Knife and man is it nice! OH

Yeah, those look like something I would like to carry. I'm saving my pennies as we speak.

Yes, you gentlemen here in this thread required me to go ahead and place the new Cattle Knife on preorder. I hope it's ok as its well within custom knife pricing. At least to me. But, I've been very pleased with the coffin jack and others I've seen, so I took the bait. Lol.

Long wait till December now.

Case does put out their best effort on these yearly releases!

I have both versions of the lockback whittler. Both are great knives. I really like the look of the Norfolk and the Tribal spear but don't have either.

Case will fix any age knife any time. With the Case/bose knives, they give even better service. If you think it needs help contact them.

I have a Yukon, AK hunter, Norfolk and Tribal Spear. The Tribal Spear is the perfect slipjoint and I have no need for another....except maybe a Pruner :)

pistonandgears, those are terrific ! nice photo too!!!

and brownshoe and Catherine_Montana, while the blade play is not something I'd have preferred if I had known, but as they say, a bird in the hand, if I sent her off, no telling what may happen in order for them to try and shore up the play on the one small blade, so, I will live with it...until I can no longer ;)

I'll be starting a thread devoted to the Whittler in a few minutes, in the mean time here's a nicer shot of mine taken tonight;

I bought one of the CASE BOSE dogleg jacks and carried it for a long time, until I laid it down on the fender of a trailer and drove away. I went back and looked for HOURS. Never happened. I was sick. Anyway, I bought another one to replace it and it became part of my rotation, also. At one point about 4 months ago I temporarily retired it for another (also a CASE BOSE, a lockback whittler). This morning I went to my drawer and immediately saw something very strange, the spear blade on the dogleg jack was sticking up a bit from the frame. I picked it up and BOTH SPRINGS WERE BROKEN!!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes. Of course I sent it off to CASE immediately. Any thoughts, here?

Tongueriver That's some very bad luck with your Doglegs, to lose one and find the other breaks up on you:eek::eek: However, I recall hearing about broken backsprings on these knives before, I think Duncan in NZ had the same issue. What with broken springs and reports of blade-play this is concerning, considering the very high price of these knives. They are not really that 'limited' in output being 100-300 per scale, which is huge compared to GEC's limited runs, it might be difficult to maintain QC and inspection on such large volumes then?

I've had issues with Bucks from the 7** series, the springs on a 703 broke in my pocket, they were known for that, it was a shame, a really nice knife, Buck replaced it with a 303 from their new line but it didn't match the 703. I believe I sold or traded it to Gus Kalanzis, he gave it as a gift. Anyway, I have a dogleg jack Bose collaboration, and while I don't often carry it, it was my EDC when I was recuperating after my accident. It is a distressing thought though, as I carry a Tribal Spear every day. I wonder if Case can repair that one. Maybe a custom maker could save the knife.

I don't have the Norfolks or the Dogleg Jack anymore but added a Muskrat and Wharncliffe Trapper to the group.
