Weeell down here in the South, one is attached a large furry animal and the other you drink a soda out of.

Sorry about that Charlie, I could not resist.:D

You guy's ever call them "FiddleBack Hunters" down there in the South? I always thought that was a cool name, but have no idea of its origin.

JPN,
Pg 34 in the "Old Knives" thread, has some info on that

A beavertail doesn't have a cap on the back, same pattern otherwise.

Thanks Tony!! Someday I'll know half as much as you do about old knives! (maybe!)

James, I knew some smartass would come up with a funny answer for that question!
You were quickest on the trigger!!

John, an old friend of mine in Connecticut calls them Fiddlebacks. And the ones that swell on one side, he calls Fiddleheads!
Like this one;

During a previous discussion about what many of us here call Coke Bottle patterns, I believe it was Tony Bose tell me and others somewhere along the line here that the same pattern was originally called a Fiddle Back. Do I have that right?

Personally, I like the name Fiddle Back better myself as it seems to really describe the pattern much more definitively than Coke Bottle.

Love that knife Charlie....
(Yep SunnyD...he is the one that told me the same)

Here is some more bone... this stuff makes some people weep...me

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the Case Knives of John's are as stated before a Beaver Tail (Sans lower bolster) which I call a bare head. One called a Fiddle back with ( with lower bolster ) which were patterns in Case Bros era. So perhaps they were the ones who named the Patterns? These are great ones John. They look to be early Tested era but I can't tell from scan about the Beaver tail maybe it's Case Bros? Do you know which one is the oldest John?

Thanks

Those are both tested. I would say the one with the cap is older cuz of the hammered, or pin'd pins. (I am no expert by any means) unfortunately they have been cleaned. It's hard to find ones that arn't these days.

Fiddleback, Coke Bottle, Beavertail...I like 'em!
Great backpocket knife!
Tony, that's one SWEET Swayback Jack! Bet that would ride great in your watch pocket!
Thanks for sharing all the Great pictures!

That swayback is just beautiful. Some Mammoth Ivory has too much going on. This one has just enough texture and color to please the eye.
And do you wanna know who grinds blades better than Tony???
Huh, huh?? Do Ya???

Noooooooooooooooooobody!! That's who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
