Ken,I'm most certain that blade is a cigar box opener

Thanks Vince! Learning all the time:o

Yeah,I think.on an old time cigar box, they used little nails to hold the wood box top down.So one would un loosen the heads w/ the flat head, then use the notch,as a pry bar/lever
I learned that in this thread a ways back.
Happy Thanksgiving,

Yep...my gramps opened his cigars with similar blades. The sharp blade was used to cut the tax stamp that sealed the box with minimal damage to the box (as they were kept and used), and the notch was used to pry the nail.

Indeed, and not just cigars -- many items came in similar relatively thin wooden boxes (normally made with softwoods) - often only a little thicker than good corrugated cardboard. Usually things that were nonperishable, relatively small and not usually sold in bulk - but most conveniently shipped and displayed in bulk. IIRC, my father had such a box for a long time that was originally for a couple gross of indelible pencils.

I'd settle for a 6-blade.

I have a 5-blade by Reese (posted in this thread a few times :D), and a six-blade gives me something to aspire to.
