Bose Knives

This is a reproduction by Reese of a 5.25" Remington HTT Bullet. I'm not sure how old this pattern is but it goes back to at least the early 30s. This one sports some loverly AG Russell bone (correction) and ATS-34 blades and springs. Like the Tony Dogshead, this knife has been around for a little while. Both of them are amazing knives.

What does the flaring tool look like Kerry? Thanks for all the good answers.

They're shaped like a center punch, cone shaped, 45 degrees or close to it. Chuck one in a vice and center it on one chucked in a drill press. Simple eh?

Heres two Reese Bose fillet knives that Reese made for me a few years ago, they have been used a lot ,mostly in the kitchen, they work great, Ones in D-2 an the other is ATS-34. After using them, seems like D-2 has the edge in staying sharper longer, Any comments or questions please reply. Joe Allen

Nice knives for sure. I appreciate you mentioning the difference between the edge holding characteristics you have observed between the two. D-2 is hard to beat in the toughness catagory. Thanks for posting them.

Here is a couple of IXL Gardeners...one I posted on the Bose KT Forum last February and a new one just finished up a couple of days ago.

This is a Gardener's Knife IXL Pattern 3 7/8" long. Blade and spring is ATS-34, 410 SS bolsters and liners, 410 pinned on shield, fluted bolsters, blade hand rubbed finish. The stag is gorgeous. This pattern was made for light pruning duties in the flower garden. Born on date: Feb 2007

Hey Kerry,

Since I farm for a living down here in Florida how about mailing that beauty of a pruner down here so I can do some field testing for Tony's knife. It would make one heck of a budding knife on the Oranges and Peaches...

Just let me know if you need my mailing address..:)

Thanks for sharing,

Sunburst

Do most of the Bose knives have half stops? If there are some that don't..why? Thanks

Generally, the old knives that had rounded bolsters have "cam end" tangs like the gardeners knife and the Remington HTT Banana knife(up there). If the knife traditionally had a cam end, that's the way the Bose version is made, generally speaking. Another generalization could be made that knives with traditionally square ended bolsters have half stops as many of those knives were also flush jointed.

BUT, as usual, there are exceptions to every rule.

BTW, just about all old whittlers have a cam end tang (good name for it) on the main blade - but they usually have half stops on both secondary blades. (Again, there are exceptions -- even to having one secondary blade cam end and one half stop.) An interesting detail that I've run into on some "half whittlers" is that again the main blade is cam end and the secondary blade has a half stop. While normally I really dislike people trying to call every two bladed penknife they see a "half whittler", when I run into one that is actually built with main cam end and secondary half stop blades I have to say that it was *intended* to be a half whittler.

When hand jigging bone...what style of cutter do most use? Is it just chucked in a Foredom or some such? I see that Reese Bose hand jigs quite a bit while Tony must have a good stock of old bone by various companies. Are the bits ball cutters, Vee style, or....? Thanks

BoseKnives.com The web site is starting to take shape. It still needs a lot of work so that will be ongoing for a long while. I have added a gallery program and will set up user accounts and galleries so that anyone that wants to show off their knives can do that. I am working on the gallery at the moment so I will be adding and making changes in that area.

I see that Mikey has uploaded some images in the user gallery I set up for him. Nice! Hopefully that wasn't too difficult to use.

It was so easy, I could do it. But I do want to go back and re-arrange them, which I see I can do. Kinda sucks having my scans taint Kerry's photos. :)

I think I just found my most favorite site for looking at traditional knives.
(note that I said looking at :D).

Excellent work Kerry. I would bet Tony and Reese will be happy with it.

Thank you!
