BTW, here is my brat recipe: 10-12 Brats; beer of choice (2 bottles); 10 medium red potatoes; 4 bell peppers, mixed colors, quartered; 2 large onions, quartered; 8 cloves garlic, crushed; 1/2 cup brown sugar; 1 teaspoon chile pepper flakes; 1/2 cup coarsely chopped cilantro. Simmer over medium heat until you can no longer resist the aroma and it is cooked through (test a potato to make sure). Serve with a glass of beer!

Now you know why I'm overweight.
With her cooking what do you expect.:D

Would you happen to live in a Borders town called Moffat? I spent a Christmas in Moffat during a big snow storm in '96 or '97; lost power for a day or two and sat around a turf fire talking and eating and...yeah, I remember Theakstons alright. There was a raucous pub down at the south end end of the town. Great town and nice people.


I don't live in Moffat unfortunately. My surname is Moffatt and my family/clan originated from the town. lovely place, I have been through many times. Peat fires - :) brings back memories of childhood holidays that does.
 
We'll It's a New Day and another guess, And I do my Brat's on the Grill ! I'm going with a Beer Brewed In Wyoming and there's awhole Bunch of them, But here's my guess,

As for a recipe, my tried and true is 5 brats in a tall cast iron skillet. Ring an onion on top of it and then slice some red potatoes on top of that. Season the onions and then the potatoes with salt, white pepper, cayenne and garlic powder. Add a bottle of above mentioned beer and let simmer covered until potatoes are tender. Check level of beer and possible add some more if needed. Crank the heat up to high and heap on some chopped cabbage and cover. After the cabbage has been beer steamed for about 5 minutes, dump the whole thing in a mixing bowl. Plate the brats, stir up the rest, and add a heaping scoop to your plate. Be prepared to fight off the wife when she reaches for a bite and consequently sleep outside on the hammock. :D
 
Since you have been to bonny Scotland I will take my second guess as

Sam Adams Scotch Ale

The only two drinks I have used in cooking are Regular Coke as a marinade for steak and Sweat Heart Stout for a stew. No sausages sorry.

edit: Read your post that says it isn't a SAM ADAMS brew - so I will change to Redhook Blackhook if that is OK

Peat fires! Mmmmmmm. The smell of them makes me think I'm breathing Laphroaig.:thumbup:

The good news is that you can still win this Bowie.

Some excellent guesses so far, but I didn't realize how tough this was going to be. To be fair to those who have guessed already today, I'll hold off on posting any more clues until tomorrow morning. No deadline for this contest, I'll honor it as long as someone keeps guessing. I'm enjoying the contest because I've gotten some ideas for a couple new beers to try.... Nice recipes too.

I got this knife from the knifemaker's forum here. I went back to the original thread and quoted the specs from the original thread in case anyone is interested:

The nickel guard is a double guard with balls on the end. The steel is 9260 (5160) hand forged to shape. The blade was clay quenched and supports a low profile hamon.

The wood is curly maple. Black spacer material between the guard and the handle, almost non-noticable.

measurements are:

Overall" 12.5"
Cutting: 6.5:
blade w/choil: 7 1/4:
Handle"5"
blade width: 1 1/2 at widest
blade thick: 3/16
guard length: 3 1/8" long
 
St Pauli Girl is my guess for today....



Dude! I dropped a hint earlier that the beer I used to braise the brats was brewed in the USA. St Pauli Girl is brewed in Deutschland. (It's probably dehydrated for shipping and then reconstituted state-side, but that doesn't count). The beer I used was brewed by a guy who woke up in the USA and made a damn fine beer that day.
