Bowie mania, let's see the Bowies.

Horse of a different color.

Staggeringly beautiful Frank Gamble Integral Bowie.

I'll add my J. Neilson, (now MS), San Mai Bowie to the fray. 161 layer high carbon San Mai steel with a 5160 core. Nickle silver, Sambar stag and Buffalo horn.

J. did this knife for me, in 2005, before his JS, MS and fame on The History Channel's Forged In Fire. Preston

Man, that stag handled beauty is just flat-out amazing.

Crown Stag handle on the 10" Fällkniven Tor.
Many Crown Stag handles on Bowieknives in the 19th century were made around 6 1/4" long on 10" to 11" blades.
This one closely follows the proportions used by makers like Chevalier and Hassam.

Good pic's of the originals are found in Flayderman's "The Bowie Knife" and even better pic's in the newly released "A Sure Defense: The Bowie Knife in America" by Mark Zaleski & Bill Worthen.
The quality of this book is simply outstanding!
The photos are mainly from Buddy Thomason and Chuck Ward.
I got my copy directly from the Historic Arkansas Museum.

The smith (Freerk Wieringa) just sent me the notice that my custom forged bowie is done and even better sent me a link to the video of the whole process. It will ship to me from the Netherlands so hopefully I will have it early next week. Till then, let’s all enjoy the video of the beast being made:

Both my SOG Bowies. 6.5 Inch Tech and 7.5 Inch Creed. Sheaths both modified, I removed the belt attachment from the Tech kydex, and added an up-side down concealed carry shoulder strap, and I added a kangaroo Spirit sheath on the Creed sheath.
