I currently carry a Cabelas stag s30v 110 almost everyday. Itdoesnt see alot of hard use, just light cutting stuff and animals during hunting season. I'm looking to replace my regular 110 for rougher work, camping, etc. My regular 110 I've had for about 6 years and snapped the blade the other day. I'm not planning on sending it in due to partially it was my fault for breaking it. BP prices on the 110 are cheaper but I have no experience at all with the CPM 154. But I did notice that the custom shop no longer carries the CPM 154. Had considered just getting a basic custom (wood handle, s30V) done but the BP are tempting for the price.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those choices kyhunt! I think the CPM154 is good stuff! But so is S30V. I would tend to lean towards the custom shop myself, but I would probably have to say get one of each :D. A CS 110, you can pick anything you want and as long as you stay with the natural wood handles, it won't be much more than a Bass Pro.

Flip a coin, you will be right either way! ;)

If BP or the CS have what you want then they are both great options.

Another option is to have a custom builder put one together for you. I just had Arks Knives do one for me

Let's you have things as you want them if you have a particular design in mind. I prefer the NS bolsters and wanted the 486 blade and some file work so that was the route I took. With a custom builder your variations are almost endless!

Yes BP = Bass Pro. Sorry. I might hold off for a little bit and get the custom done. While the Bass Pro and Cabelas are a decent price, the custom would be nice. I'll be gone all week so I'll chew on it for awhile. Since I have my stag AG 110 its vital that I get one today. I'm thinking the s30v with nickel silver bolster and walnur handles. By the way are the Bass Pro handles real rosewood or are they laminate?

I would say the BP, the customs will be around for awhile, and who knows how long the BP will be. (Also they are on sale right now.. ;) )

The Bass Pro model also has a Gray "coating" as well. Just not as dark, but still very shiny.
 I vote custom shop ;)

samhain, how did you do that?

That isnt what I quoted? :D

The sale price is what got me thinking of just upgrading then I got to looking at the Custom Shop. By time you figure in shipping the custom shop looks really good.

You can't go wrong with any of those options. I vote custom shop (and I will be ordering one soon myself). I like the Nickel Silver, too, but be aware that NS is not as corrosion resistant as brass, as Plumberdv will attest to. See this thread:

I will be ordering a NS, but will be very careful about storage.

I wonder why Buck doesn't make the bolsters out of Nickel, which is very corrosion resistant. NS is actually a copper alloy with only some nickel.
" The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc."

Thanks I didnt realize that. Also I'll have to try to figure out how to turn my email on. I didnt realize it wasnt. Sorry.:o

Talk about a bummer on corrosion. Now was the colt nickel silver or stainless steel? I carried a Colt for years and never had a proble. with corrosion.

I can't answer that, maybe someone else here will try. . A lot depends on what kind of NS it is and what kind of SS. And it depends on what it is exposed to.

Pure Nickel is extremely corrosion resistant, but I'm not sure about hardness and malleability.

ok my email is turned on now. Thanks didnt realize it wasnt. Took me a few minutes to figure out what to do.:D

Kyhunt, the handle material on the Bass Pro 110 is laminated Rosewood . Of the two steels, CPM154 and S30V, the first is heattreated higher (61-62) and the S30V is at 59-60RC . They hold a edge near the same but the 154 sharpens easier as it has no vanadium content . Both are a fine grained steel . DM

I'm not sure about your particular Colt, but they made a lot of
Nickel plated revolvers. They also made a lot of Stainless "ultimate"
finish revolvers that looked very shiny like the Nickel guns.
If you ever cleaned your Colt, and used Hoppes #9, if it was Nickel
you would probably have spotted the finish. Hoppes will get into the
finish and usually ruin it. If you used Hoppes and never hurt the finish
I'd say your Colt was SS.
Regards Sonny

Thanks David Martin. that kind of makes me lean more toward the custom shop.

SonnyD. The Colt I was referring to was the Buck Colt 703( I think the # is correct.) Unfortunately I dont have any Colt revolvers.:D

Kyhunt, Your correct the Colt is model #703 . The 700 series originally were made with stainless steel bolsters and liners . Then about the time of the year dates Buck switched to nickle silver . If each blade has it's own back spring its mfg. in 1986 or after . DM
