BP or Cabelas , or custom 110.

Dave we all already know your attracted to bright shiney baubles and how long they'll cut is secondary at best if important at all.....

I was thinking more like "IF they'll cut," since the baubles he buys all seems destined for a display case anyhow. Just watch out for the cases that corrode the bolsters!

:D

:p You're right. All I know is that if I get a Buck, it's going to have better than average steel no matter which formula it is. That's enough for me. :)

The Cabela's Alaskan Guide 110 is very nice....

But the 110's from Buck's own custom shop are fantastic too....

Either way, I prefer S30V over the 154CPM.

I picked up a 110 S30v Bos at our local bass pro a couple of weeks ago for $84+ tax of course I didnt know what it was until I started reading here :)

Ok it's official
I decided to get(ordered) both steel with a twist.
1 - Bass Pro edition cpm 154
2 - Custom from buck with S30v and nickel plating, no rivets and cherry wood (I really dont like the logo on the cabelas version)

What are you thoughts on the option of Rivets or no Rivets?

Thx
All

I like rivets on wood inlays for my 110's and order all my Custom Shops that way. For horn and bone, go no rivets IMO. Either way it doesn't matter in terms of securing the inlay as they are glued on and its forever glue.

Enjoy your 110's, I love mine. g

I like the look of rivets the way the CS does them (total of three per side) because they look something like the old 110s.

I get rivets on everything. Got one without and it looked boring to me. I live in a house with constant AC or heat with controls for correct humidity and I've never had any problems with slabs cracking.

I agree with Flatlaner, rivets for wood, no rivets for other materials. And I have all three, enjoy carrying all three... but for some reason I can't explain the BP 110 gets chosen over the others. I think they all cut well. I do find the CPM154 easier to sharpen.

Yes your BP110 has a Bos CPM-154 blade which is a very good blade made of premium steel. You should love it.

Badw, Don't worry about it . We all make mistakes , theres a few nit pickers here .
Yes, CPM-154 is an excellant blade steel . DM

Some of the super steels do not shine up as well as lesser steels. We think it's because they have so much resistance to polishing belts and buffing compounds. If you give knifemakers the idea that you are interested in premium steel blades (by your purchasing habits), they will offer better stuff. Understand that there is no free lunch. A blade that is hard to sharpen is hard to dull. Wear resistance in is wear resistance out. If you insist on edges that sharpen easily, you will be going to the sharpening bench more often.

When you boil it all down all Buck knives have outstanding steel blades plus the legendary Buck heat treatment. No matter which one you choose you're getting the very best.

I don't think I have ever found a steel that Buck uses, that hasn't pleased me. Each steel has it's own 'character' that shows up through use and sharpening. For me, one of my favorites is 440C, because the edge has a certain 'tooth' that I don't find in other steel.

I don't think that a person can make a wrong choice where Buck steel is concerned.

David, I wasnt trying to be a nit picker. I'm just considering a new 110 myself and thought maybe the stores were carrying something that wasnt on the site. If I offend somone or sounded like I was nit picking I apologize. I was really curious as sometimes stores start carrying things before websites do.
