BPS Knives of Ukraine

Argh... My carbon steel adventurer has a pretty sizeable chip in the blade. No clue when that happened, but I had been testing it pretty hard to hack up a couple of branches. That blade plus the bog oak handles... That was my favorite of the lot.

Not sure what I should do:
1 -- Regrind the blade (I don't actually have the skill or time to do this)
2 -- Buy a new carbon steel adventurer and harvest the blade from it
3 -- Just use the stainless steel blade that came with the Blackhawk adventurer
4 -- Something else...?

The cream of their crop, to my mind.
I'll second that... Or third I suppose! 🙂

I've been working on mine... Should be ready next week. B.L.O. is holding up the project. Two very different looking scales from the same interesting piece of wood. I did it on purpose to see what each one would look like finished.

The savage kinda ruined larger knives for me. I don't need any others! Indoors, outdoors... It does it all. It is a bit wide, as B bort2.0 says, but I like it.

Aw jeez, now I'm thinking I should give it a second chance...

What do you think makes the Savage so superior?

I don't have a point of reference with other BPS knives because I just have the one.. although I have been eyeing up the 8" one.

It just works for me. Good size, nice steel, flat grind and a great sheath too. I bought it to replace my camping knife and it ended up being my large all around utility knife. The bog oak scales were perfectly fine I just found some neat wood and can't sit still.

How bad is the chip in your blade? Sharpen it out or no? I'd say just keep it sharp and keep on using it.

Very cool, thanks... Glad you and that knife found each other! :)

I like the look of my bog oak/1066 adventurer a lot, and hoped the Savage would do the same for me. Maybe it would but the blade height just seemed like too much.

The other day, we were in the back yard and my wife said "hey, let me borrow your knife," and to my surprise she thought nothing of me carrying a 5" blade around everywhere. Seems like I might be pressing my luck to go bigger.

Here's the chip... it's fixable I'm sure, but it's also located right where the blade starts to curve.

I haven't used BPS's stainless steel yet. It's not a steel that I get excited about, but wondering if it might be pretty decent after all?

That knife is far from ruined. Sharpen it out and you'll never notice the difference.

Those are great, handy knives

You've obviously hit something you shouldn't have hit, but as has been said, that'll sharpen out very quickly. Maybe spend some time in the Maintenance sub-form, learning a little about sharpening, and getting yourself some basic sharpening equipment. Alternatively, you could just get on, and use the knife. It looks good with the Bog Oak scales, first I've seen like that
