The cream of their crop, to my mind.
To mine too Jer, I wish they'd do more knives with a FFGThe cream of their crop, to my mind.
I just got -- and sold -- a Savage. Beautiful knife but the blade was just way taller than I wanted it to be. Otherwise it was great... But too huge. Oh well! The cream of their crop, to my mind.
I'll second that... Or third I suppose! The cream of their crop, to my mind.
I don't have a point of reference with other BPS knives because I just have the one.. although I have been eyeing up the 8" one.Aw jeez, now I'm thinking I should give it a second chance...
What do you think makes the Savage so superior?
That knife is far from ruined. Sharpen it out and you'll never notice the difference.Very cool, thanks... Glad you and that knife found each other!
I like the look of my bog oak/1066 adventurer a lot, and hoped the Savage would do the same for me. Maybe it would but the blade height just seemed like too much.
The other day, we were in the back yard and my wife said "hey, let me borrow your knife," and to my surprise she thought nothing of me carrying a 5" blade around everywhere. Seems like I might be pressing my luck to go bigger.
Here's the chip... it's fixable I'm sure, but it's also located right where the blade starts to curve.
I haven't used BPS's stainless steel yet. It's not a steel that I get excited about, but wondering if it might be pretty decent after all?

Those are great, handy knives
Argh... My carbon steel adventurer has a pretty sizeable chip in the blade. No clue when that happened, but I had been testing it pretty hard to hack up a couple of branches. That blade plus the bog oak handles... That was my favorite of the lot.
Not sure what I should do:
1 -- Regrind the blade (I don't actually have the skill or time to do this)
2 -- Buy a new carbon steel adventurer and harvest the blade from it
3 -- Just use the stainless steel blade that came with the Blackhawk adventurer
4 -- Something else...?
You've obviously hit something you shouldn't have hit, but as has been said, that'll sharpen out very quickly. Maybe spend some time in the Maintenance sub-form, learning a little about sharpening, and getting yourself some basic sharpening equipment. Alternatively, you could just get on, and use the knife. It looks good with the Bog Oak scales, first I've seen like that

Neat idea, looks goodThanks! I got both the regular and Nighthawk versions of the Adventurer and swapped scales.
They can make one with handles that cover the tang!Neat idea, looks good
I like the Adventurer, but would certainly carry it more often if it had a flat-grind

Such a novel idea! They can make one with handles that cover the tang!
Though, in fairness, I knew that. I have the mini camper.
Great food prep knife PatThe Savage is my favorite. Of course I only have 2 so far, I'm working on it! I use it for food prep mostly.
