Just wondering if anyone has ever had this problem????hmmmm. Two shows ago on 11/12/05 i put a down payment for a carbon fiber D/A, whiplash, titanium bolsters, on off feature. bla bla bla. And paid the balance 2 weeks later. I was supposed to recieve my knife in 8 wks. Since then i have e-mailed several times. I was told they love me??? and not to worry Brad is working on my knife and it will be one of the last knives he making because he's getting out of the businesss. After several e-mails, and left him a phone message. Still no response. And this weekend past at the ECCKS in the Crown plaza. Tim Britton after e-mailing me 3 times that my specific hatchet was ready and will be in my hands at the show. I was there at opening time within 15 min. found Tim and found out uhhhh guess what i just sold it to someone!

Didn't know Brad was getting out of the business. Too bad, because he made a good knife.

The overwhelming consensus is: do not, ever, pay in advance for a knife. Makers are generally poorly organized business people, and the hobbie is not protected from people with easily stretch morals either.

I think Brad Duncan has had issues here and elsewhere. What Joss said is good advise.

What Britton did to you was done to me by a maker once, also. I hope you hadn't paid in advance for that one!

I want to thank you for naming these makers so others will think twice before giving them their hard earned dollars!

Ordinarily i wouldn't have paid in that manner. But after seeing him at previous shows. You just figured 33, top of his game, hugh write up on how he's wanted to do this his whole life, working as a machinist since he's like 3 days old. I guess ................ Well hopefully it will turn around.

Glad I didn't send mine in without speaking to him, cause I haven't got replied by email or phone in the last month. I had my suspicions from threads I've read and bought one anyway, kinda hoping it would be supported/servicable.

Hope he gets the money back at least. I guess I gotta find another maker to touch up mine.

This is a really sad turn of events. Brad makes a Helluva knife but the grief surrounding him of late is simply not the way a maker at the "Top of His Game" should be conducting himself. Just have to hope he gets all his affairs in order before his Exit.

As for Mr Britton's actions...BAD form!!!! Definitely NOT the kind of behavior you would expect from a "senior" maker...

Brad not only has problems supplying knives that are paid for, he also has had quality control issues with many of his knives. Not a maker I would consider purchasing from.

I would be really pissed if a maker did to me what Tim Britton did to you. A maker to add to my avoid list.

So what are you going to do about it?
Threeworlds!!!??? What do you suggest?? Quite a bit of distance between us. Last wrote to me, We both have fulltime jobs,,, e-mail backs will be slo.? Huh any slower I'd be removing e-mails!

Thanks to all for the support!!! The money back would be nice. But i prefer the knife and a clean wash. <<<< Strength and Honor >>>>> Knife show comming up at the " Big A " ????? Anyone heard of it. Heard talk,,,but forgot to get info. 3 wks from know??? or so! Thanks

Well, a bunch of people on the the GB&U forums have suggested options like, if it really doesn't work out, taking it to a small claims court .... I was just curious as to whether you had any specific plans about how to recoup your money or get your knife. I know people on these forums don't like to do that unless things get really bad, but I figure customs are a heck of a lot of money and the more you hold possibly unscrupulous makers' feet to the fire, the more likely it is you will get your money or knife. I guess it's your call as to whether Brad Duncan is still working on good faith or not (i.e. whether his e-mail is down computer lost its hard drive etc.) if not, it's amazing what allusions to bringing people to court will do to motivate them.

I for one am getting really tired of makers/dealers pulling this crap. I understand completely if you cannot make deadlines or fulfull orders for whatever reason, life is unexpected sometimes but cmon already. Just communicate and let us know if you want to do business or not. If not then stop taking money and promising orders. I dont see any excuse for this whatsoever. It all sounds to me like poor life management skills and unfortunately we all end up paying for it when it could have been avoided if people wouldn't try for the ez way out like hide 'n seek.

I purchased a knife from Brad in 2001. Great knife.
I sure hope Brad gets everthing headed in right direction. Good luck to Brad and his customers.

I'll remain hopeful that Tautog gets addressed. I won't hold my breath for support and service though. Does anyone know a maker that can take over repairs or mods on these if necessary?

It really is a sad indictment that people continue to do this to others...........but on the other hand, there are a LOT of really GOOD knifemakers who make a very nice knife, time after time, and are completely above reproach in the monetary department!!!

 :(

I'm also glad you named them. One is a criminal act and the other at best is immoral.Brad and Tim I hope you will add your side of the story,I know both of you guys have been at this site but I doubt we'll be hearing from ya's.
