Brad Southard Flipper Arrived!! Lots of Photos/Video

No Brad, great design work from you! This is one of the best Spydercos available IMO! I can't put this knife down. Is the stop pin design yours? Have never seen one like it.

I might have missed this detail, but can somebody explain to me where the blade stop pin is located on this knife and how it works?

Since first seeing any photos, that cut out area looks like a ball end mill routed around the G10, to me, it looks like that could use some sanding to knock down any sharp edged areas, but, how did it feel when gripped? might not really be a problem when held?

Again, sorry for your loss...till Christmas that is ;)

Uhhg!

These videos starting to come out are really making me jones over this knife... Hurry up and get here already. :D

Do you really need jimping with a nice finger cut out and the extra protection provided by the flipper trigger?

I think in reality no jimping is needed at all.

Hey Gary,
It is done with a small ball mill. I dont notice it being sharp or pointy at that area. Actually hadnt even thought about it till you asked. But if it did poke you, should be pretty easy to relieve that a bit with some 400grit sandpaper I think.

Thanks Brad, hopefully I'll be able to press it into hand in a few days, nice design, looks like a great edc one for sure.

While I haven't actually used the knife, when I was handling it, I didn't find it uncomfortable.

Got my shipping notice a bit ago from CS, and then an in stock notification from GP about an hour later, so a decent shipment must have just arrived from Spyderco today. Good luck to anyone who wants one, you might get one, if you are fast.

I'm very temted to order this knife. Since it's a production model I thought I'd wait and see what people thought of it, but it seems really sweet. For some reason I thought it was going to be larger, but this size (slightly smaller than a sebenza) seems just right for me (sebenza is as large as I go for a folder).

Got mine and it is awesome! It is very well balanced and the deployment is lightning quick! I'll get some pics up right now.

Just got my shipping confirmation on mine from CutleryShoppe!!!! Woohooo!!!! Haven't been this excited about a knife in quite a while.

Is there any information about the hardness of the blade?

I haven't heard anything for sure yet. If they heat treat it similar to the M390 Military I will be happy. I could be wrong, but I think the M390 was between 60-61 and performs very well. I believe on Ankersons tests the only thing that beat it over a long period was S90V. Since CTS 204P is so similar, I'm guessing they will treat it the same maybe?

All I know is that my M390 stays sharp noticably longer than S30V when cutting up cardboard. They seem to have found a sweet spot with the heat treat. But maybe it's just an awesome alloy.

I have no hard evidence to back it up but I believe I had heard spyderco would be running their cts-204p slightly harder than their m390 which is at around 60-61. By that logic, the Southard should be around 62-63.
