Brad Southard Flipper Arrived!! Lots of Photos/Video

Good luck with that one... a far as I'm aware there are none. It's a tremendously popular release and dealers are in the process of filling preorders. I imagine they'll be more readily available in a month or two.

That is unacceptable... :)

Just went to my local knife shop to check out the Southard Flipper and they had #146. It was perfect, the F&F was awesome and don't even get me started on the stonewash. It was very dark to my surprise with an acid wash look to it on the locking side. I loved the size and it was smooth as butter. I have got some thinking to do whether I should get a 560 or Southard. Can't wait to actually pick one up.

Appears my name was not high enough on the pre-order listing as was initially thought, so, it'll have to be a longer wait for the next batch to arrive, which might well be into next year, sad tale for sure, but, once it arrives all will be well, it's just time, long stinking waiting, aggravating, hand wringing, head hanging, unending, agonizingly slow motion, time, but I'll try to maintain a good thought ;)

Mine has shipped from Cutlery Shoppe. From the appearance on the video, I believe I m going to like the size.

LOL! That's awesome.

And here I was hoping mine wouldn’t come for a while because of the amount of knives I’ve received recently.

I just got the shipping notification; my wife is going to kill me.

Anyone have any ideas how to avoid her wrath?

Don’t think the “It was a pre-order I had no idea” will work. :(

Super jealous. I blew all my money on black friday gear then look what pops up.

Thanks gotta keep that sense of humour, it's critical!

Tell her that your weird uncle Herbert placed the order in your name by mistake, but it's too hard to change at this point, and it was a harmless mistake, so you'll just see how it is when it arrives and if it isn't that special you'll send it to dear uncle Herbert... ;)

I just ordered mine so the wait begins. The only thing that is bothering me is the pocket clip. Not the end of the world just esthetics.

Weird uncle Herbert will have to wait to get his

Well I got the Southard today, first impressions, VERY nice knife. Craftsmanship is the same as my Techno which is what I was hoping for and one of the main reasons I ordered one, I was not disappointed. The Southard is as nice and in some ways better than my Umnuzaan. Opens perfectly with the flipper, very hard to open it with the hole. The first time I opened it was "Wow that's a lot of blade for a smallish knife!". The G10 brown weave is nicer in person than in the pictures, same color as the ZT561. The barrel spacers are top notch. Not a big fan of the clip. Fits very nice in my hand.

I got a orange mini Tootsie Pop with my order, wish it was grape (I can forgive since Jeff sent me such a nice knife) :), ate it anyway while typing this.

NICE, mini pop's are cool my daughter get's all mine :( feel bad for poor weird uncle Herbert, but, just remember those days when he had you sitting on his lap and...well, maybe you don't need to remember those days!

UGH, I have mentioned how much I dislike waiting?? ;)

Congrats though,

i just picked mine up today at a local shop. first impression was that it is actually smaller than i thought but it packs a lot of blade for its size. the action is incredibly smooth with no play in any direction. lockup is early, giving plenty of room to wear in. i don't like how the scale side of the handle is thicker than the locking side. the scale should have been thinned down a bit. also not a fan of the huge cutout for the lockbar. the secondary cutout is too much in my opinion. still, it feels good in the hand and is as solid as any ZT i have or my Gayle Bradley for that matter. can't wait to put it to use

Opened it a few more times and it opens fine using the hole now.

Opened and closed it using the flipper several times with my left hand and was able to do it just as good with my right. You would think it wouldn't be too hard tap some holes on the other side for the clip for you lefties.

I am guessing that this is strictly based on looks since you also stated that you like the way it feels. I was also a little puzzled as to why the grips were made a different total thickness on each side. That is really the only thing I can pick on with this knife from what I have seen. I know there has been tons of discussion regarding where this knife was made, and I have to admit that it was a factor for me in deciding to buy one of these or not. Ultimately, I have decided that the Southard Flipper will end up being the first knife I buy that was not produced domestically in a very long time. It just looks too great for me to resist. I certainly think it is important for Spyderco to understand that this concern still exists within the buyers market. I also think that it is something that people should be able to represent without any kind of negative implications.
