Brand New 100 lb Little Giant

FINALLY! Glad its in your shop Don, I know youve really been looking fwd. to this for years.

Don,
Real nice. Your killing me. Now it's time to come back up and test drive that one before winter anyway.
All the best
Cliff

Woweez that is a real beauty!! oh well i guess i can always hold on to the dream of having one someday...

Sweeet:thumbup::thumbup:Hey, if you stand in between them when they are running what would happen???? Would it shake a few pounds off of ya???? HEHEHEHEHE!!!

Beautiful hammer! I'm a huge fan of the old american made machines that have been restored.

Why is the hammer on the raised concrete base? Is it for the height of the dies, so you don't have to bend over as much or is it for support?

A friend of mine has an 88lb ang yang and it sits way too low. At the end of a hard day at the hammer my back was killing me. Devin Thomas did a demo on that hammer and he used a chair to do his work. I'm fairly confident he could forge out a billet standing on his head. Wouldn't that be a sight!:)

Mike, I'm also a fan of old restored American machines, but this is a New American machine. :)

I raised the hammer 6" above the floor so I wouldn't have to bend over to forge. Like you found, it's better on the back. Concrete is 3 foot thick.

Cliff, come on up and lets forge, again. Any time, man!

Chuck, I might just call it 'Thumper'

Farmer Phil; So how many walnut blocks and W2 does a fella have to sell to get one of those?

Takes a bunch :)

Thanks much for all the comments, guys. I am very happy with this hammer.

I've got some photos too. The first shows Don when he see's the engraving on the pins. The second is the dual thread rods from the rear. The next is really nice picture of the two setting together. The last is the man forging under it.

Like Don said this has been two years in the planning. I was probably just as excited as Don to get this hammer. I actually got to see most of the build up and help a little along the way. I've rebuilt a 100#er along the way and needed help adjusting the ram in mine so I got to work with Sid setting the one up in Dons. The engraved pins started out as a joke really I suggested to Sid that we engrave the dies and then on the next trip he said he had a gentleman lined up to do the pins. I was actually banned from photographing it till Don got it. I'm not good at keeping secrets.

The hospitality and the information Don shared with us was outstanding and really made it a trip of a life time. It was a great honor to help out on this.

You would not believe how well these two hammer work together. You just pop from one to the other. The ole one will really draw a bar out and the new one will straighten it with one hit. It's pretty amazing seeing these hammers together. At one time I only new of one guy with two 100ers and that was Sid. Now I have to say it's that guy in Missouri.:D

Karl: I got to spend two nights with it. It was the first thing I saw in the mornings.

I don't want to sound like your wife, but how do you use 3 hammers?

One at the time. Different dies in each hammer. One can also collect Little Giants :)

Dave, yes, I was a bit surprised with the engraving  It was good having you at my place. Thanks for all the help!

Very, very cool, Don! Glad your new 100 lber is installed and ready to please. It will be interesting in the difference you find in the new (with heavy ram) and old, using side-by-side.

It was great seeing Sid again and meeting Dave. Kathy & I really enjoyed the evening and Tina's great 'Powerhammer meal'. :D Terrific reason for celebration.

I am not sure about a name for the hammer, but they may be changing yours from 'Sunfish Man' to 'Hammerin' Fool'! ;)

Good stuff!
