Brand New 100 lb Little Giant

I don't work steel but that is an incredible piece of machinery and I ended up watch seeral of the utube videos related to these hammers..... wow

Do you know where I can buy a power hammer?
Do you mind if I ask what you paid for your power hammer?
My wife died recently and I am building a blacksmith shop for my 13 year old daughter and myself.
She wants to learn how to be a blacksmith.
I don't want to spend a ton of money.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

look up Clay Spencer and his tire hammer. He has get togethers where a group of people get together and build power hammers. They work well and cost about $1500 plus your time. He may have one to sell that is already built. A power hammer is not needed to do blacksmith work. You can do it all with a anvil forge and hammers.

Fill out your profile, you may live near one of us who can show you the way.

For more general related smithing, see the site
http://www.iforgeiron.com/

and the books

Lorelei Sims-The Backyard Blacksmith
(by a woman too, very appropriate for you)
Once you buy that on Amazon, they will suggest 10 more books too.

Search blacksmith on this site, lots of old books available

If you want a power hammer, the majority of full time smiths I have known, like air hammers for speed, flexibility and productivity.
research
iron kiss, say mak, kuhn,
they are more $, but they are professional tools.

the tire hammer is a good alternative

To get into the basics, you can build a forge and learn the basics by hand.

Check with Sid and Keri at Little Giant first, then search the web, lots of hammers out there for sale. I paid $3400 for my 25lb, $2500 for my old 100lb and more for this new 100lb. I'll answer your email shortly.

Well, I like Little Giant hammers better (especially 100lb) than air hammers and I do this full time :)

Update; After using this new 100 a good bit this fall. I love it!
It hits much harder then the old one and moves steel quick...

But you bought the LAST ONE !

I'll chime in with the others on Little Giants. I recently rebuilt the 100#er I have and after running Don's. I think mine will keep up. I some times wonder why I have a 25. Also a side note you will not find any better people than Sid and Keri. You get American made parts with an American made guarantee. They'll stand behind their products.
