Brand New BK9 Failure!

Makes me glad that I buy Becker's.

Yes it does!

I've been a fan since my first Camillus BK-7 many years ago.
It says alot about Becker Knives and KaBar in general, and Ethan in particular, that even after surmising that the knife failed under ABUSE( I use that term in the context of being on the edge of reasonable use and no defects being found by the manufacturer) it is still being replaced.
Personal attention from the man himself and a legendary company like KaBar fully supporting the Becker claim of "Knives that work for a living", what is not to like about this outcome?

Anyone see the videos on knifetests.com of the bk9? Seems it kinda shattered the same way. I am beginning to think that its a steel/design flaw. I hope im wrong, and sure hope my bk9 doesn't fly apart on me.

if i repeatedly drive even a hummer into a rock wall, it will fail. possibly on the first go, if i'm really determined.

even a sharpened pry bar will eventually fail. a test can be designed that will do it.

if i were to hammer most knives through the knots in certain kinds of trees around here, i'm pretty sure i'd at least chip the blade, if not bend it outright. this would also be known as "abuse". accidental for some, but beyond specs.

when batoning, i tend to go for wedge shapes near the edge that take less than 1/2 of the blade edge length. this way you don't get binding 1/2 way into the logs diamter. i mean, really! ;)

shattering? yes, i could see that. i bent a whole axe head this way once. damn silicated lignans :>
