Bravo 1.25 or Reiff F5?

The 1.25 lt looks nicer, but the reiff is less likely to need a costly return trip from Australia due to returns/warranty/etc.

what style? folder? ...fix blade? ...blade size?

Eta: something like this: https://www.knifecenter.com/item/BM...range-g10-handles-orangeblack-boltaron-sheath ? ....Note that every steel has his "healthy" hardness range, if you exceed this the steel becomes so bridle that you have to be careful not to drop it as it would just break from the drop.

Fixed EDC size 3 to 5" flat grind

I saw that Benchmade, CPM-S90V but only 59 HRC: https://www.benchmade.com/products/15002-1-saddle-mountain-skinner

...it still has a significant better edge retention than MagnaCut - edge retention is a combination of hardness, carbide volumes and carbide hardness and not just hardness. The particular combination is specific for every type of steel; MagnaCut requires a higher hardness to achieve its specific edge retention ... see https://knifesteelnerds.com/2021/10...ness-edge-retention-and-corrosion-resistance/

MagnaCut requires a higher hardness to achieve its specific edge retention .

I did not know that. So I should be searching for steels instead of hardness, but this makes it even more confusing:

M390 is rated 6.5 for edge retention, and Nitro-V only 3...but then "high carbide steels (D2, S30V, M390, ZDP 189, etc.) simply lack the toughness and edge stability necessary to keep a keen edge. This means that carbide tear-out and micro-chipping really degrade the steel faster than simple abrasion in low carbide, high-toughness, high-hardness steels (AEB-L, Nitro-V, 14C28N). As an example, I keep getting MUCH better edge retention from Nitro-V than from M390 cutting cardboard. At the end, the Nitro-V blade is still sharp and with no micro-chipping; the M390 blade is terribly chipped out."

s90v s110v s125v seem like the winners either way, just not many knives use them.

edge retention 4.5 corrosion resistance 5.5

S100v and S125v aren't anywhere, so S90v looks like the winner, which means Benchmade or...another Benchmade.
you hijacked my thread :) ...(it's o.k.) ...EatingSarma's post may refer to my question (Bravo 1.25 or Reiff F5) that started this thread (?... not sure about this so....)

Lol, you're right. And I'm back to square one anyway because the only s90v available is perfectly designed for trapping blood and fat inside the handle.

Back to your thread topic, here's two suggestions for you since you like 3V:

Bark River Cub 3V

and the CRK BFK 3V 62HRC, actually going on sale today

wrt Benchmark: that design of the tang is a bummer - they picked the right steel that won't dull so easily for the job, and then they spent labour and money on the tang to make something that was - as a standard design - perfect for the job into something really bad....ouch ....

wrt Carothers knives: yep, had them on my list, but they are hard (nearly impossible) to source, especially here in down under. The Dutch Bushcraft video just shows why 3V is - IMO at least - the best steel choice for this type of knifes. IMO MagnaCut is somehow overhyped, a good choice for pocketknives, also the advantages over normal and cheaper D2 is minimal.

wrt the Cub: a good-looking knife that ticks all the boxes, but I prefer the classic Bravo

From left to right:
1. McNees Ridge Runner in CPM 3V
2. Reiff F5 in CPM 3V
3. Carothers BFK in Delta 3V
4. Bark River Bravo 1.25 in CPM 3V
5. L.T. Wright Genesis in A2
6. Rokka Korpisoturi in 80CrV2 Carbon Steel

I just found this when exploring the forum: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/carothers-signature-fk3.2035201/ ... I wasn't aware that you can buy knives straight from the forum. Price for this one, if I add the shipping to down under, would cost me approx. AU$ 120 less than the Reiff F5 and the Bravo 1.25 LT together, hence at the moment a little bit too pricy for me. Something to watch out for the future .....
