Bravo 1 (Caution: Orange Content!)

I love my BRK&T...Bravo-1 w/PSK and NS w/MC...The Bravo1 is one of my favorite blades...the NS is for my son, You picked up a great knife....

Thanks, Fiddleback!! Yup, No thumb-ramp for me! :)

5 minute project. Now my sheath isn't being beat to hell by that thumb ramp every time I put the knife away.

I've got the Northstar, Aurora and Bravo 1, and the Aurora is my favorite. The Bravo 1 is definitely a stronger blade, but the Aurora is a little lighter and just feels better in my hand.

That orange handle on your Bravo 1 is way cool though. I've got to get me something in orange.

How does the bravo rate against other hard use fixed blades?.
Is it in the same league as say Scrap yard,Busse etc or is that a cut above in your opinion no pun intended?.
Im sure it will out cut any given its a BRKT as ive found out i love convex blades because they want to slice.
I know the steel doesnt give the same strength as SR-77 or INFI but is there that much of a difrence that i would notice?.
For example if im prying a hard wood with it would it be that surprising if the tip broke or would it be more likely to bend given your experience of A2 with BRKT heat treat?.
I know any knife with any steel can have a flaw and that there warranty is as good as any im just wondering if anyone has a bad experience with this blade as most if not all ive heard is positive on this knife.Which i guess can only be a good thing.

DrMudd,

Can you please give me specs on this knife? Handle length - Blade Length - Blade thickness.

I think that is a VERY nice knife.

This, unfortunately, is the best pic I have of it right now...

Its to the right of the hammer next to the red handled mora.

Fiddleback that green one next to the red Mora, is that a Hultafors craftsmen?!?

I've got one from a trip to Sweden........it's a thick short knife.

Its a Hultafors. But I'm not sure which model. It has a thicker blade than a Mora, but ~the same length. Its a good knife except that there is a extra bevel on the scandi grind.

Fiddleback---Can a friend send his B1 to you and you remove the thumb-ramp? Thanks.

No. Sorry bro. Modding other peoples knives makes me nervous. It usually voids the warranty from the manufacturer, and I can't guarantee you'd be happy with it.

Are you from GA? If so you can come by and we can get it done that way.

Fiddleback---My sister is in Marietta! :) He should have BRK&T do the Mod. Thanks!
Rolf

That looks good. Theres just something about orange.

I got rid of the thumb ramp on mine and it was a big improvement.

I'm with you. I just don't need that ramp ... went with a Fox River, as I don't have anything like this young man's knifemaking skills.

Must admit, I do like orange on a hard-use knife meant for the woods.

Next time you're in town you should come by for a beer and a shop tour.

I just got my Bravo-1 today and all I can say is sweeeeet.:D I got it in the ivory micarta w/ a matching ferro rod and the leather pants. This is my first BRKT and believe me there'll be more.Every bit as nice as my Randall's in my humble opinion, and less expensive;).I also got my better half a Mini-Northstar w/ matching handles, but i think my 7 yr old daugther has decided to lay claim to it,so i'll just have to get a regular Northstar for the little lady.:p I think i'm addicted.

As the owner of a Bark River Aurora in A2 and a Scrapyard Guard in SR-77, I would say you will probably not notice a difference EXCEPT that the edge retention of A2 is a lot better than on SR-77.

On the Bravo-1 I think you'd break the last tiny bit of tip - say the last 1/16th of an inch - or bend it further down if you had the strength. If you do have the strength to bend a Bravo-1 you must be a hell of a gorilla because there's no way I could and I'm a big guy who does things like hammer stuff with a four-pound mini sledge for five hours (boring day at work today!)

SR-77...I am certain it would bend before it would break...but the edge retention is, in my opinion, poor, as a result.

You MIGHT be able to snap off the last .010" of a Scrapyard knife, but I would guess it would just bend. But then that steel is a little soft, I find. I know that chopping through dry 2x4s has really dulled my Guard every time. My axes are tempered harder, for sure, as are most (if not all) of my other knives.

But if you were prying with anything other than the last fraction of an inch of the blade I don't think you would be able to discern any difference at all.
