Bravo 1 (Caution: Orange Content!)

I am waiting for mine and its killing me! I am almost afraid to leave the house because I don't want to miss the mailman. When it does come (keeping my fingers crossed for Monday), I plan do do a huge review on it with tons and tons of pics (I hate it when knife reviews don't have pics) and maybe a video.

I hope it arrives Monday, bro. It truly is an excellent knife!

As the owner of a Bark River Aurora in A2 and a Scrapyard Guard in SR-77, I would say you will probably not notice a difference EXCEPT that the edge retention of A2 is a lot better than on SR-77.

On the Bravo-1 I think you'd break the last tiny bit of tip - say the last 1/16th of an inch - or bend it further down if you had the strength. If you do have the strength to bend a Bravo-1 you must be a hell of a gorilla because there's no way I could and I'm a big guy who does things like hammer stuff with a four-pound mini sledge for five hours (boring day at work today!)

SR-77...I am certain it would bend before it would break...but the edge retention is, in my opinion, poor, as a result.

You MIGHT be able to snap off the last .010" of a Scrapyard knife, but I would guess it would just bend. But then that steel is a little soft, I find. I know that chopping through dry 2x4s has really dulled my Guard every time. My axes are tempered harder, for sure, as are most (if not all) of my other knives.

But if you were prying with anything other than the last fraction of an inch of the blade I don't think you would be able to discern any difference at all.
Thanks for the info and comparison.
I only have a BRKT PSK for comparison and thats a really thin knife and only 2 inches of 12c27 so not really that relivant to compare.
Im going to order one soon as i can find one with a Emerald or Jade burl handle. The very tip of the blade snapping if it even got that far is not a problem for me and if it can be spoken of in the same sentence as SR-77 thats tougher than i will probably ever need.
It sounds like you would have to try and break it which i wont so thats good.

Fiddleback---Can a friend send his B1 to you and you remove the thumb-ramp? Thanks.

Bark River does this for a small fee or free not sure. If you ask them to they remove the ramp before shipping the knife.

I'm actually pretty happy with the ramp on mine. Makes it a bit hard on the JRE leather sheath, but very little wear yet and JRE said it would be covered by warranty if it ever destroyed the sheath.

Sorry about that 3wolves, my indoor pictures don't turn out too well. I did try tonight though, and they still didn't come out too well. Blame it on the pain pills.

Here he is saying good bye to a couple of visitors (more on that later):

Another couple of shots. BTW, I spit on the Nessmuk 3, ptoooey! This is the DOC-CANADA 4 heretofor referred to as the Fab Four! (Machax, Bravo1, Buck Alpha Dorado (154CM), and the Vic Spirit!)

Thanks DOC (somehow I never pictured you as a busse user), whenever I'm waiting for a knife, I find all the pics of it I can and save it to a drool folder, its the only thing that keeps me sane. You make some really nice arrows too BTW, do you knap the flint heads yourself?

Great pics doc! I love the arrowheads. Obsidian is great stuff, you can get it super sharp!!

Hey 3wolves,

What are the requirements to being a Busse user? :D Actually there is a story behind them which I am going to post later.

I copied all the handle combinations of the Bravo1 in a folder and used it as a slide show. :o

No, I did not do the arrowheads. So far, my knapping skills suck, but I can make a usable point, just not very pretty. The loose points in the second picture were done by a guy on PaleoPlanet who posts as Guadalupe Knapper and the ones on the arrow and in the third picture were done by a friend of mine, locally. The rest of the arrows are mine. The flutes, however, were made by a couple of guys on PaleoPlanet - Flyfsh and dliwehtfollac. I was hoping it would make for an interesting picture.

Thanks jw.

Wait!! There are requirements?? :eek::confused::eek:

Nobody said anything to me about ... requirements.

Have I been doing this all wrong?

The blades on the Bravo and F1 look to be pretty similar, but the handle on the Bravo seems to be the feature that gets your attention when you first pick it up. Then the cutting ability for such a stout blade reinforces your "brilliant" purchase. Curious how the two steels and respective heat treats would compare with normal use?
