Breaking Blade news...no BS

So that means they're going to lower the price of the 1095 ones, right?....

And we'll soon have world peace and Greece will be solvent.

seems like a pretty polarizing change. If they can pull this off for the same price as the standard 14, I might buy one just for the cool factor and the data point, as this would be my first d2 knife. If there's any significant price jump I'm gonna stick with my standard 14. I trust Mr. Becker's design and materials choices as well as Toooj's manufacturing abilities, but I just don't see a good point in buying an upgraded version of an already excellent knife. If it's not broke don't fix it IMO

The 14 is pretty popular but I was hoping for something else really. What I dunno, just something else.

I don't think we are going to be seeing a reintro of the Reinhardt anytime soon. I just want a 16 or 17 in s30v.

D2 is a great steel...it takes a razor sharp edge and holds it for a relatively long time. Rust resistance is great too compared to 1095. That being said, I won't be getting one. The 1095 version serves me just fine.

D2 is okeeday, but a re-realese would be more epic-er.

Keep us up on the news, bushy! thanks.

Not having my Beckerhead number yet...still learning; I thought Becker and ESEE were competitors. ??

The BK14 is a collabaration between Becker and ESEE. the blade is from a Becker 11 and the handle is from a ESEE Izula. Hence the name Eskabar... EseeKaBar.

The BK14 has both trademarks...one side has the BK&T/KaBar stamp and one side has the ESEE stamp

Mr. Ethan is also working with ESEE to market his new line of Kitchen Knives....

This excited me way more than the D2 14er...

Nobody knows how good, or bad a 14 is in D2..... Everyone that is negative is comparing their own experience with D2... But fact is, the heat treatment on steel has more of an impact on its usability than its composition.. I think an open mind on this development is far more important than past experiences with a grade of steel.. Let's see what Ethan and Tooj have done.... I'll buy one...

Everything here is opinions on a non existent product, at least as far as we are concerned.. Others may have first hand knowledge..we ( or at least I ) do not... How about a wait and see posture.. Works for me...

Doc

I am interested in a BK14 in D2. No experience with that steel before, but have heard things good and bad.
Like DOC-SAVAGE said, I trust Kabar's heat treat and plan to keep an open mind. Will likely get one depending on the price.

I would absolutely love it if it had the Izula II handle though. If anyone at Kabar is reading this, PLEASE USE THE IZULA II HANDLE! :D

I'd be happy with a 14 in D2. I don't even have a 14 yet, so it will be my first, as long as it comes out fairly soon.

Still *yawn*

I mean....Kabar heat treated 1095cv is super steel as far as I am concerned.

Will be interested to hear the logic behind this from Toooj. Maybe then it'll make sense. Maybe its something the military wanted?

Let's see..

Dozier likes D2 so does Dave Winston, Charlie May ,Gene Ingram and a host of others.

I do not doubt D2 can rust under the right conditions but so can any stainless steel.
If stainless was TRULY rust proof it would be impossible to chemically etch a makers mark on it ,and yet we know that is not so..

The knives I have owned and built from D2 so far have been a real joy to own and use. None of them have caused me the rusting issues of carbon steel blades and the sharpening issues are really non issues with modern Diamond and ceramic hones.

D2 even works fine for Convexed edges. Yes, it takes a bit more work to get it stropped up but once you do, as you touch up the edge, they seem to get sharper over time as the tough carbides along that edge get more and more aligned..

It's a damn fine knife steel. A D2 Eskabar is a welcome addition to the world of Beckers.
