Yeah, personally, i don't see a damn thing wrong with 1095 Cro Van. I have not had ANY rusting issues with any of mine even during hunting season. It was friggin pouring out opening day last year. I did no real maintenance until end of season. It was on my hip everyday. Just wiped it on a clean rag at end of day. Sheath was still wet inside. Maybe if i was close to saltwater i'd have problems, IDK ? The factory does a pretty good job puttin on that coating. I think they do it for a reason. ;) :D

So, lets see, now i need a BK1, BK6, a few more BK10's, & Bwoohahahahah :foot: 2 of Toooj's top secret ****** *******'s. Sorry can't tell. I know, i know, i'd be  if i was you too, but i was sworn to secrecy. Don't wanna lose my BeckerHead #. You should save some money for it though, most will want at least one of them. My list is getting long already. :D

That 24 is sexy. I'll def be getting one when it comes out. Hopefully the new coating 14's hit the shelves soon, I miss having my 14.

Sure. Probably way too much info, but here it goes...
A couple years ago I bought 2 benchmades in D2 for hunting use. One big folder for field use and one fixed blade for cutting up the meat after I get it home. I have now skinned and processed 4 deer and 1 turkey with these blades. In my opinion both knifes become just as dull after 1 deer as any other blade I've used for this task. So I haven't perceive any great advantage in edge retention in my use. Also, the 1st time I used the big folder it quickly developed rust that pitted. Here's how it happened. I skinned out the deer. Washed it off in the creek, dried it on my shirt, and took it home. After approx 1 hour drive home I washed it with soap and water and dried it with paper towels. Lightly sprayed and wiped it down with some rem oil and left it open sitting on my dresser. This is a normal routine for me. That evening after I had the deer cut up with the other knife and packed in the freezer I went to put away the folder. Corrosion spots all over it. I was pretty upset about it because those knives are rather expensive. That being said, I have not had corrosion issues with the fixed blade. However, after cutting lots of meat recently with my BK15 I can't say that the D2 fixed blade I have is any better at holding an edge over the 15's 1095. I don't want to completely write off D2, but that is my experience and opinion on it thus far.

I've had the pitting happen in AUS-8 but i really think its the coating,it collects/traps moisture and even stainless or almost stainless (d2) will rust,I found d2 to hold a half sharp edge for a long time but it will be hard to work with,im on your side for d2,i most likely will not buy another d2 blade because its not very user friendly and there arent many advantages to it.

Kershaw sells the Outcast by Ken Onion in D2 - as with all steel, depends on the heat treat.

True but from what I have heard D2 isn't meant for large fixed blades it's more for smaller slicier blades.

Disclaimer: This just what I have heard and i'm claiming that my word is law lol

It stems from the makers, that take the heat treat to the stars and beyond. My Dozier custom, is amazing. Holds an edge damn near forever, but you start batonning with it, and its gonna chip out, I know it will.

Keep the RC low, and its gonna do fine. Bob Dozier is legend and his D2 is legendary, but he don't make big blades. He makes slicers, and very damn well.

I've never had any problems with the 1095, but it sounds like a good excuse to get another Becker.

Is this going to be a bit thinner than the 1095? Just wondering, cause I would think it would make the 14 even slicier.

I should be getting these today. I gotta meet E for coffee and some conversation.

Once I get back, I have a few things to do, but look for a review on them and a contest tomorrow.
