Breeden Passaround - Tyson Bushcraft - With a Surprise!

I got the knife on Friday, and I've been testing it out this weekend. Sorry for not posting when I received it! I put all the pictures on my computer today, but I didn't get a chance to upload them.

Overall, I really like the knife! I have 2-3 other knives that are this size, but this knife is different from those in that the blade is narrower for it's relative length. I liked this for some reason. I enjoyed the blade profile, and the handle fit comfortably in my hand. For extended whittling and use, I had some slight hand fatigue, which is fairly common for me and smaller overall profile blades. I like the contours of the handle, just a little small for my hands.

The overall fit and finish of the knife was good. I'd like to see a little more smoothing of the scales, as show in this recent thread. I don't necessarily need for these edges to be slimmed down because of grip issues, but I just think it makes the knife look much better. I've taken some comparison photos, which I'll try to post tomorrow.

I used the knife this morning to undo some stitching on some clothes, and the sharp point worked great! I did some light drilling with no trouble. Some light batoning as well, mostly with just palm smacking rather than using an actual baton, and the thin blade worked very well. I didn't notice any edge problems during any of my use, but it did seem to loose its edge quickly, though it might need some reprofiling. I'm not that great on edges yet, but it almost looks like the bevel has started to convex perhaps. But, popping it on the belt grinder with some 60 grit did the job just right... kidding! I did use my leather strop loaded with some compound, and it quickly restored the edge to hair popping sharp.

The thing I liked most was the sheath! I haven't had the chance to use a leather sheath like this before. Most of mine are medium ride kydex with teklok's. Which I love, but this sheath rides pretty low, it is much more natural and comfortable to access the knife. I might be working on some drops for my kydex. Or after I've narrowed down my collection, getting some nice leather pants for some. I've never been a fan of leather. One of the first things that I do when I get a new knife is to get some kydex pants made for it, but I don't think I would for this knife!

Overall a great knife, I'll post some pictures later.

That is one great looking knife. Who ever ends up with it in the end is going to be a happy camper.

Great pics and review Naked. That Krien is too sweet.

Glad you liked the blade. Its really cool.

I like my Krein quite a bit, though I'm talking with him about something different. I find myself leaning towards a 6" fixed blade and a strong folder. So, it might pop up for sale... but maybe not!

What do you think of this knife with a Tyson blade shape and a Hamilton handle. The blade is 5" long and 1" and 3/16" wide and is 5/32" thick
with a Hamilton handle 4.5" long and is covered in You guessed it Orange G-10:D.

I have only been using it a few hours so far today and I think it is a keeper.

I like it Bryan, but not as much as the Peacemaker. Just keep liking that knife more and more. Jury's still out on the Hamilton handle. I appreciate the choil-type thing on some handles, but I don't prefer it, if that makes sense. That little DP Knife I had when I visited you has a choil like that and it works just fine, but I'm still just kinda neutral on it.

That being said that looks like a great hunting and woods knife. Somebody is going to be very happy with that knife.

rocketbomb LOL thanks I got to tell ya that when Jeff H. sent me his drawing of the handle that he wanted on his knife, I thought well ok. After I read what Jeff said
he thought would make the knife easyer to rotate on the finger and use the last three fingers to help in the flicking of the knife for snap cuts. I thought to myself I am going to have to try that out. After I made up a peacemaker with that handle design and went out and tried it I was amazed at how well it did. I still like my Peacemaker to LOL yep I remember that little DP knife you had. A good edc knife.
So far I am really happy with the Tyson blade shape and the Hamilton handle together. I am going to call it the T.H. Bushcrafter. We had a fire again tonight and had the family together I made up fuzz sticks and battoned with it and it even helped out in the kitchen for supper. so far so good.

Rupestris thank for the sexy knife comment LOL the more I use it and the more that I look at the this T H Bushcrafter the more I like it.

Finally getting the pics up, I apologize for the delay.

I don't have any action shots, but I used this knife for everything from cooking a meal to building fire. I really like the thin profile blade and it's a great shape for an all around user. Handles are high quality and very comfortable. I tend to carry a large knife with me as well but I would be perfectly happy with this as my second blade or a main blade on a day hike. This is the first Breeden I've held and I'm very impressed with it. Seems to be of excellent quality everywhere on the knife. Grind lines are smooth and even and the handle is shaped great.

Here's a few shots:

Tom is the last reviewer too! That means the contest is closed and the drawing will be done tonight from post number 2 up through post number 158.

Good luck all, and thank you for the review.
