Bret Dowell Knives

What pattern name did you both decide on ? Sowbelly Trapper/ Skinner

It’s a Sowbelly Trapper. The pattern is based off of Tony Bose’s Sowbelly Trapper. Bose has used a few different blades as a secondary as well. A skinner, a full length spey, and even a slim muskrat.

Here’s a pic of a T Bose so you can see the difference in the main clip. I don’t care for the hump of the blade being at mid point, I like how Bret styled mine much better, moving that hump toward the back of the nail nick and smoothing it out with the swedge. Makes it more streamlined.

My name can't come soon enough on Bret's books.

I don't mind the wait though, it gives me time to really think about the pattern/build I want.

Tim, how the heck are you bud?

- perfect looking patina there, Jake

Chilly there, by any chance..? ;)

We're supposed to have a real cold snap coming for 10days..........sun shone for bit today, nearly grabbed the heated jacket for a quick ride on the 'Glide. So, I hurredly put the kettle on, made a fresh coffee and had a florentine......much warmer, much safer :D

Paul, it’s been a typical winter in NY. Cold swings mixed with the ups and downs lol. We got about 6-7” of snow the other night but it packed down a lot today. I’m going to throw the trapper back in my pocket tomorrow. Might load up the .20ga and take a walk hoping to jump shoot a grouse.
