Brick and Mortar GEC Knives

Just remember, this thread is about your experiences of being able to pick up a GEC in an actual store, sharing the knives and the stories, not about GEC purchasing in general... that would be frowned upon.

There was a quality Italian restaurant located in a mall?

No, no. The Belligerent Duck. The shop in Alturas. There was a Claim Jumper Restaurant behind Plaza Cutlery in the Costa Mesa shopping center.

To keep John happy. What a GEC shopping experience that was. CE & CF a GEC Dog Paw and then eat prime rib at the Claim Jumper. That would make my knees shake and keep my head spinning making it difficult to walk back to my truck to drive home.:):eek:

I want to see your GEC knives that you purchased in an actual Brick and Mortar store.
Not something you ordered on the internet and had shipped to your front door.
You actually walked in, handled the knives, and chose the one you wanted.
The GEC Factory Store counts too.

I bought this one in a knife shop in Solvang, Ca.
They had a half dozen brand new GEC knives on display, all different.
My sons and I decided this #76 was the one I needed to purchase that day.
It has since been recovered in Ebony with a new shield, and it will always be special because of the experience.

What was the name of the knife store if you don’t mind me asking? I might visit Solvang in a few months and would love to check it out.

Edit: Saw they moved to Idaho. That’s one special knife for sure!!

I'd just be happy to run across a store that sells knives anymore
Around here that would be Tractor Supply Co and Walmart, neither of which have ever sold any GEC's
My guess is I'd have to drive a hundred miles and MAYBE find a store that sells a wide selection of knives

I'd be happy if it was only a hundred miles. My "local" brick and mortar is 180 miles from my front door, and they never handled GEC.

I've been in SMKW in Sevierville TN several times. A couple of times they had a few GEC knives. The last couple times I've been they had none. I'll be checking them out again next week to see what they have. I'm guessing they probably still have some Remington baby bullets.

Very nice stag on that one!
Thanks Bub :)
Stag is one handle material I definitely prefer to see in person if possible. Here's the shield side:

I've been over to SMKW several times. I've looked at GEC's there 3 years or so ago. Like everybody else, they've had no GEC on display the last couple of years.

Bought in the GEC Factory store - both "S" models, they are wonderful knives! I can't find why they are marked "S", and still find it hard to believe they stayed in the display waiting for me!! A thrill to buy first-hand!! At a discount!! They were Rendezvous Specials!!Two no. 65s 1.jpgTwo no. 65s 2.jpg

I live only a few miles from KSF, they do have a small brick and mortar display and are willing to bring out whatever is available on their website. No GEC available in the store of course.

I bought my Possum Skinner and stag toothpick at GP Knives just a couple/three years ago. They also had Dixie Stockmans and 44s in stock.

That had to be exciting, especially looking back on how good we had it.

Even more special coming from the factory store. 🤠

The first GEC I bought was from a dealer at a gun & knife show. He had lots of stock to inspect. I had to pass on the #25s, because the pulls were too hard. I settled on this #57 Geppetto Whittler. It was the most expensive knife I'd bought up to that time.

I went back another time and bought this little Esquire and a few others. I sure miss being able to look over a bunch of inventory like that, but my wallet appreciates it.
