Bringing new life to an old TL-29 using simple hand tools

As a new member here and new to this hobby, Thank you for posting this tutorial! Great looking knives!

Excellent tutorial! I am almost tempted to find an old knife and give it a try.

Great contest too.

I am in the fortunate position of having a pure and original esnyx custom in progress.

Do we even want to know what goes into having one come forth "pure"?

:p

--- Fantastic work, Evan, including taking the time to frame and take the in-progress pictures.

(Not an entry-- I'd miss the screwdriver!)

I have a TL-29 that is just calling out to be modified now! Thanks for an awesome tutorial!!
I'm in for the GAW, thanks
Ryan

Not an entry Evan. Just wanted to thank you again for all the work you put into this thread and your generosity in sharing it, my friend.:)

Yes, thank you for doing what I never got around to doing! You da man!

One more annoying question. I went to the hardware store today and asked for 3/32" brass pins. They looked at me like I was crazy. They have rods, which were all too fat and little nails. The nails are all marked by gauge, and I have no idea on how to convert that. I'm assuming that that's not what you're using. When I go to the hardware store, what do I ask for in order to get to the pins? Sorry for my ignorance here. I've only seen the pictures after they are trimmed down and don't know what you're starting with.

Thanks for any help.

Not an entry, since about the only mod I've ever managed was earlier this year making a bail for my 50+ year old first knife (a Colonial Forest-Master) from a piece of an S-hook I originally intended to use in a toilet tank :(

Thanks, Evan, for the very clear and understandable tutorial/GAW. It all seems so clear, even though I know, from hard experience, that for a guy with my limited mechanical skills, the "devil is in the details". I still admire and enjoy seeing skilled craftspersons at work.

Count me in! Turned out very nice. If I win you can have my old TL-29 so you can make another tutorial. lol

I'm guessing it's wire gauge, but you might need to measure with some calipers or better yet a micrometer.
3/32" =.09375"

So I'm guessing that I'm looking for 10 gauge? Evan did say that it would come a bit big and I'd have to sand it down a little. At this point I'm guessing that I have to get the 10 gauge brass nails and cut the heads off and sand them down a touch. Then I can use a similar sized steel nail for the pivot pin so that it'll blend with the bolster. Please let me know if I'm way off base here.

Thanks for joining, everyone!

Anybody else??
It is a breath of fresh air in this techno oriented world to see someone who enjoys working with their hands & can skillfully create something.
My hats off to you Evan.

Cory, PM me your address and I'll send you some. ;)

We can also discuss where to get some privately, as I am not sure if they are registered dealers on the forum.

Wow.

Double huge thanks.

The thread is bookmarked and saved so I can give this a try and I'm in, I'm in, I'm in. This is a grail knife for me and can't turn down the opportunity.

Love single blade folders. My modification skills are minor. Scuffing up Opinels and avoiding the mechanical bits. I really need to take the plunge and learn how to peen.
