Bruce Bump's Brutus Axe-Matchlock

Thanks again for the head swelling comments.
Gary, the engraving and gold wire inlays are the work of Jere Davidson, the silver wire and mother of pearl is by Jay Hendrickson. This was Jays first gun project. I still cant believe I got him to even do it.

This piece warrants some more pics, in particular a pic of the entire "beast"...

Every time I see this, a little part of me dies. I still can't get over it. I sit and cry and whine for hours trying to fit a curved bolster and have it look acceptable, then you post pics of something so good that every part of it makes my most difficult challenges look like child's play!

TikTock, If you spent over 2 years on a project, IT Will Show. Almost everything on this piece is from knowledge and encouragements I gleened from this very forum. These are the finest people I know and share their wealth of knowlege freely. We all have ideas knocking on our thick sculls trying to get out. My advice is to bust out and make something different. You have the drive that God gave you so make him smile!

There is one advantage I have never shared before but here it is: If you make something so different that nobody else has ever done one before you instantly become the expert on it and you cant be told it isnt done correctly.

Good point! I just need to convince buyers "Those fishhooks in the finish are SUPPOSED to be there..its a process i developed!"

great leapin' lizards, Bruce! You just have to keep adding another rung to the ladder, don't ya? I gotta say, folks will be looking at that piece under glass for many generations, along with your name on the gold plaque alongside it. I am not worthy. I am not worthy. I should type this 1,000 times.

Bruce, I thought you said this thing was going to be like .54 calibre or something crazy huge like that?

Either way it is awesome!
I'd send pics and more info about this one and your other gun-knives to all the gun mags just so they know there are still people out there that actually MAKE guns.

Great job!

Jason I had it bored to .58 but it is going to Barbados and they wont allow firearms with a bore bigger than .40 cal. At this point it will shoot .38 or .58 but I probally better glue the liner in the event of an inspection.

side note.................. there are still more than a few people who build matchlocks and hunt with them . also shooting matches on a regular basis.

Bruce.....as hard as I'm trying to not post here, I just had to comment on that thing.......................but damned if I know what to say!

We've talked about it any number of times but when I see the finished product, it is just beyond words.

Remind me to start calling you master:D

Peter, This is the finest kind of compliment to get you back if only for a single post! Thanks my friend!

Some of the board policies Dan. Certainly not any of the members. I still love you all....Time is also a problem.

Beautiful doesnt do it justice Bruce.

Glad to see you again Don. Life's to short for nonsense. Bury the hatchet and share your time.

Hey Don, Spend a little more time here but how about a hawk instead of a hatchet. There is a nice one right on this thread.
Bruce that is awesome work.

Yea......I can only wish to make something that nice. Someday.
Did you do any testing today/

Oh stop it now. No not really.
It doesnt show but our friend Peter Nap furnished the .38 cal. liner in this thing.
What a guy!

I was wondering if you used that Bruce. When I got yours, I got a lot extra. Look familier:
