I just finished this one up and decided to snap a few photos before sending it off. It is about 15'' overall with a 10'' blade. The steel is 5160 and the handle material is orange/black G-10.

And here it is in black and white:

Why, just why?

I'm sure it handles very, very nice, and does it's job well, but it is exceedingly unappealing aesthetically....or....so ugly it's cute, but not really?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Make such unsolicited and unwarranted derogatory remarks?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everyones eyes are different.
Obviously there is a market, or Mr. Newberry wouldnt be making them.
H.I.'s similar design is so popular that we cannot keep enough in stock.

Why must you butt your head into something that does not concern you?

It is not your knife, you are not the maker....so you are casually invited to make the comments about the subject matter and not reduce it to a personal attack. Mr. Newberry is a big boy, Karda.

I don't care for it, and am free to comment on it. I'm commenting on the knife....you are commenting on me....that is not cool, and belongs elsewhere.

I love it. Maybe not for everyone, but me personally i liked my forged blades to still look forged after grinding

The last thing this forum needs is opinionated derogatory remarks.
A modicum of manners and courtesy should be the norm.
Sometimes opinions/comments are best left unsaid.

I happen to think the knife is well executed and crafted. I bet the customer will be happy with it, despite what anyone else thinks.

That is your opinion...you are free to express it...but it is not up to you to decide what this forum should be or do, as long as the rules are not broken.

I happen to think the forge finishing treatment on this particular piece competes with the belt satin, that the handle material is poorly suited to this design....there is nothing derogatory about that, simply observation.

This s/f(which you have shown such disdain for in the past) functions just fine and will continue to do so in the future.

You see, your first post did not elucidate any opinion on the piece other than the derogatory. If one is going to hand out opinionated critiques, perhaps it would be most beneficial for the poster and the forum, that there is explanation without usage of derogatory remarks.

Perhaps this subforum does function fine for the small amount of knifemakers and others who dare to post here and seldom post anywhere else....For the hundreds of others on this site, whom this forum is actually for however, it does not, or there would be far more knifemakers posting here.

I happen to think that the forge finish is fine and the G10 a decent choice considering the materials some customers request.
In the end all that matters really is that the purchaser is satisfied with his service and purchase, regardless of the opinions of anyone else.

If I had been making this for myself I would have used wood. However, I think the customers choice of handle material turned out well and it allowed me to try out the orange/black G-10.

I really like it. I do like how you have an area where there is a stop to stop the hand sliding onto the blade.

The main criticism of my bark river machete is that it just feels dangerous to use with no stop point for the hand.

Kohai, "why just why" post the negativity... Its just not necessary IMO.

this knife looks like a ton of fun! I like the forward lanyard mount, shows some thought. This knife should definitely show up in Joe's Halloween/apocalypse thread.

i like it you did a great job on it Allen .... some like the look some don't i personally don't care as long as the money is green when they pay for it and Allen you know that the bottom line when your doing a custom

I think it looks pretty sweet. I agree if it was me i probably would have gone for a wood handle but i do like a mix of old and new and with all the talk of zombies lately this kind of head chopper seems to be getting more and more popular. nicely done sir!
