I can not send you a pitcure yet.The knife is still on the way, means have not recived yet.But the year code is an X.If I'm right then is made in the year 1990.So you saying Buck never produced damascus bade ,just purchased from another company.I learned something again.Dont not worry about me,I admire the sharpness of the buck knife, but on the side useing jap kitchen knives.Let me tell you that, they know somethng about sharpness!Well the sharness should match for the task you useing your knife.Just to close this reply:I'm so happy with my 110 made out of ATS34,if my new baby performing close to that, then I got nothing to say

well i have two of thoes X year knives that is date code for 1990..
the layers will vary and is a lighter color then later ...
for some reason parker frost comes to mind as the oem for the damascus then..
it is good steel ... it will however rust if not cleaned when used as edc..
here is a pict of some diffrent damascus blades from buck..

the top two are rare inverted stamped custom blades...
3ed and 8th down are your years of steel
the others are diffrent years of custom shop steel
lucky seventh is very rare with the strations and jiged horn!

well if you send a email to EnaJ@buckknives.com or sarahb@buckknives.com you can order that way from the custom shop...
they will ship over seas to the EU...
there is a company Hoffizzets (?) that is not far from you in germany ...
could be that Haebbie (he is a member of the BCCI ) may could help you contact them ..
it is buckcustom that comes here that can assist you in membership ...
send me your email address and i will have him contact you about the club... so if you do join... you and haebbie would be the only two i have gotten signed up and both of you over seas!

the buck collectors club inc is not connected to buck knives...directly that is... they are an busness to them selves... buck knives works with the club..

Good evening Dave!
Thank you so much for taking a good care of me!
The guy contacted me allready with the membership, but before I contact him and the custom shop,I want to put everything on the right place.
1st:The only reason for me to be a member of the club is want to get a chance to buy the annual special knife for members only. But for that i must know, wil they sip this knife overseas upon buying?
2nd:Are you shure in the custom shop they will make me a 110 with S30 V blade?
Because in the original custom shop did not offered that type of steel among the choices.
Finaly back to your reply in the forum.
You mentioned that type of dam steel getting rusty if not cleaned properly.
Is it mean the blade is carbon steel?
And now the really last one.Do ypu know anything about what kin of edge grining has been done on this 1990 editon blade?
I'm so sorry keeping you busy with my questions!
Regards!Karoly

Hi Karoly...
I will let Dave answer the other questions as he is better qualified.
But so far as shipping a BCCI knife overseas to you...I "don't think" it would be a problem. Certainly the postage would be higher.

BUT, if you find out here that it is a problem, you can have them ship the knife to me and I will send it your way at no charge :)

1 st : yes i am of the thought that they will - that said there may be a slight extra charge for shiping... again it is the club that orders these knives...and as goose said, some one here would be glad to reship for you...
2 ed : you will have to email the shop and ask Ena,, she is the gal ...
that said you could always email Joe Houser ... some times he may have a blade in his collection or access to one that the custom shop wont...
things in the custom shop are well .. bussy and on a what is in stock basis...
buck does not warehouse a lot of custom blade steel as they did ...

...

ugh yes it is a low carbon steel but still not a stainless!
there is what is called damascus stainless of which goose showed you that has a tear drop pattern to it ... it is not a true damascus as in hammered to weld the layears to geather... it is laryers of two types of stainless but is not forged that way .... the billet of layered stainless is deformed with high pressure then ground flat .. this process looses a LOT of the steel in to power on the floor... but the layers show when it is ground and polished some..
the 1990 edge is full hollow ground but is not the thiner edge 2000 they have now... if you use it it will hold up very well...
i have another knife comeing from buck... seems that sence i lost that other horn pirty that i now i seem to actract horn handel knives!
a 111 in nickel with black horn and that same stanless steel balde that
Mr. Goose had two of!... will be shiped with my 2ed year knife when it gets its number on the blade..
next i will be after a pearl handle buck ... i have mastadon and elephant and geraft bone in the 111 or 110 already...

Well, yes, that certainly is one reason to join the club; however, consider that you also receive the club newsletter, filled with a great deal of valuable information, four times a year and that you also are given access to the club's website, another source of a great deal of valuable information. But perhaps most importantly, you then become a "Buck Brother"!!:thumbup:

These things are important as well.I mentioned the only reason, because I tought about club meetings, gatering together, visiting exhibitions,to dothese thinks are quiet tough for me!

Sorry Dave but I must disagree with you!
My opinion is real damascus exist in the museums only and probably few collector owns it.They wort a fortune of money. The way of processing is totally lost. There is some theories, but the fact is till now, nobody shure what type of steel has been used in these products,or what was the exact forging technik.Nowdays few skilled blacksmiths can reply the surface of the damascus steel. But that is all.The nowday damascus, and acient damascus dont have anything common structually. The problem is ther is only few remains and these are higly valuable,so nobody let the scientists to cut a piece from it and start to analyse it.In 2006 a german scientist grup published an article, they might discover the secret of damascus steel.Briefly:There theory is:(after analise a few really small piece of dam steel)the nano tubes are responsabile for the incredibile properties of the steel.the nano tubes formed during the low temperature forgeing.
So everybody can stick one of the theorys, what is the real damascus, but for me damascus is a legendary steelt hat has been lost.I belive when we the mankind will be able to reproduce the original,we gonna get something we never have it before:the blade can cut other steels like butter,or the rock ,or even piece of flyig silk as the legend says!

over in the EU you have much better public transportation then we do here
privet car ownership is required to get to work and shop...
unless you live in Big City like NY...
so it is also some times tough even here to go to meetings and eshibitions...
Haebbie is comeing here for the post falls meeting... his ticket is once again as much as mine... i will be flying about 3000 miles to idaho..

this type of meeting is a once every 5 years thing...
the next big meeting of club members is in atlanta at the blade show...
i think some times there is only one busness meeting in a year...
as a club member i think you might be able to order a cd of some of the things going on...

yes it is true, but you have to be concerned few things as well.I paying same price for 1 liter gas for my car, like you pay for a gallon. In Europe the distances are short means is not a must fly from one destination to the other.Therefor the fly tickets are very cosy.for me to fly to the us(almost same dist, like your flight to idaho)around 1000 bucks oneway! In the US the traffic based on car,one family owns atleast 2 cars,in europe the insurance is exp, fuel is exp car is exp, that is why we have a better public transportation.People use it reduce there cost.
But is not really part of our topic! We getting far from it now!So let just love buck products, instead. Most durable folding for ever!!!

true...
once i consitered puma and buck about equal ...
i had a puma folder given to me and i did not like that when it broke i could not send it back... buck one ten i could ... but mostly i jest put in tool box..
i send one back quicker now that i dont have to use them every day!
my edc is a 110 two line inverted stamp from about 1968
also i had a 560 Ti with s30v blade that was fantastic!
that knife went to england... i still have the other...
only two 560 with that blade i know of..
goose can tell ya about how any of the other new steels work
he has several that he rotates on useing
like bg42 the new SS damascuss 154 ats34 ect...
when i get these they become non working knives...

Karesz68, You can get a 110 w/ S30V blade thru Cabelas, you don't have to go thru the custom shop. Perhaps they will ship to your country. DM
