Buck 110 Drop Point BCCI Annual Knife

Got home and checked the mailbox and...........nothin, zilch, empty:barf: Immediately think someone stole my mail knowing what had arrived. Opened the door to find the packages and mail on the table cause my daugher had stopped by with granny after school. The mail lady put it at the side door and they brought it in of couse:(:o THat was close:eek:

Anyway, mine is perfect. No play, shaving sharp and on my belt as we speak. I coulnt wedge my arm between two tree turnks and run left with as much snap as this one makes opening and closing. Very happy, although Bos not withstanding, I would like a s30v etch on mine.

I guess there's always one way to do that. From the Buck Customer Service department I was told they will etch an inscription on any Buck knife. This is done with the laser etch technique. They charge $7.50 a side. So if you really, really want it on your blade, you could have it etched on the blade face as it is done with the Custom Shop orders.

Me, it's not that big a deal. I'm happy with mine. But in general it is nice to have a premium steel identified on the tang. I know it's S30V, but 20 or 30 years away it would really help to sort out what's what.

Exactly wolf, I would like to have it on there as a badge if honor. The price to have it done is inconsequential but it will not make the long journey back to have it performed. I trust the usps as they havnt lost anything yet, but I wont take the chance. Id rather it had it but can live without it.

You could have a local jeweler do it. As long as their engraving machine can engrave on stainless steel, you're all set. Buck actually suggested this to me (for a gift inscription) to avoid shipping charges, shipping time and delays.

Rember that there are knives out there that are suppose to have BG42 blades in them that are not marked. I have a 110 G10 that has COA stating it is BG42, but is not stamped. If memory serves me right there has been a picture posted of a master series, with out it being stamped BG42. HL

I know that it has happened in the past. I got two of the 118 D2 buildouts direct from Buck. One was marked D2 and the other wasn't. Although Joe assured me tney were all D2, that doesn't help down the road. COA's can be lost or destroyed, but a blade etch or stamp is forever.

If I order a custom with the S30V blade I expect it to be marked in some permanent way. I've bought three customs in the last couple of years and none of the COA's say what the steel is and two of them are S30V. Actually, make that four I've ordered.

Although I'm happy over all with the knives (except the one that doesn't close), I'm not happy that the blades aren't marked. :(

All,
The missing s30v engraving was an oversight by Buck. I will be having a discussion with Buck Knives about the possibility of COAs describing the knife and stating the blade is indeed s30v. More to follow when we come up with a solution. If this is the route we take, we will mail the COAs as soon as they are provided to us, one for each knife ordered. Does this sound like a reasonable "fix" to those of you following this thread? President John and I just discussed the matter and felt like this was the most cost and time effective solution.
Thanks,
Larry

For putting a gift inscription or your name, etc. I can see that as an option. For adding a believable steel type to the blade, I can't. Heck, I could take a Walmart 110, have it marked as S30V by an engraver.

Now there's an idea! I'll up the value of my custom shop knives that have 420HC blades by getting them engraved with S30V or maybe even BG-42! ;):D

I agree with you that it is very nice to have what the blade is stamped into it when it is a special steel, but mistakes do happen. That is why I use the one not stamped BG42 in my EDC rotation. After all how do you prove to someone on what type of steel it is? HL

This sounds to me like a good solution.

I agree, Plum. I'm not going to do it. But if someone really, really wanted it, it is possible.

Here are two of the four that arrived yesterday. Cell phone camera. I had a new Canon, but there was a power problem. They sent a new battery but it still didn't work, so I sent the whole thing back for a refund. So, I'm still without a decent camera.
Oh, and the box, I just borrowed it from another knife for the photo.

Just send that bottom knife to me and I'll take pictures for you and post them. I might even get around to sending the knife back someday!;);)
