Buck 110 in Bos 5160

Fairly knives has a S7 knife for the same prices as 3V knives. I really like the design and the thickness is more my style. To me 3/16" is fat. Their blade is "thinner" than a 5/32" I really like but if it's as tough as they say it should be fine.

I might have to look into that one more.

S7 is extremely tough. At 57-58 Rc it is one of the toughest steels used in knives and possibly the toughest at that hardness.

what cobalt says is true, but ill add it has poor edge retention and will rust if you look at it wrong.

Yes, edge retention is not so good, about the same as 5160 and rust resistance is similar as well. Better than the 10xx series of steels but no where near as good as A2 or 3V.

Edge retention is not most important to me. I like thinner knives that will take a beating. The Fairly is thin, sounds like it's tough. I don't mind 5160 like edge retention if I can get thinner and just as tough or tougher. 3V isn't out of question as of yet but that S7 looks good to me.

I don't care about rust. Any non stainless will do it, and most stainless will rust. It's just a part of your lifestyle if you need a knife. They are going to rust. Some less than others.

s7 sounds perfect for you.

Yup, S7 is what you would like. I love S7 in larger knives or thinner fixed blades and I would love to have a machete made of it, but it would probably be expensive. As much as I love S7, I would not want it in a folder. Again, not the steel that I would pick for a folding knife.
