Buck 110 Rules!

I broke down about 8 months ago and ordered a Custom Buck 110. Damascus blade, Stag handled and nickel bolsters with my initials on them. Man, is she sweet!!!

Gee Tok, you sound like this was your "first time"! I've been a fan of 110s (and 112s) since the late '70s when I borrowed my big brother's. He isn't a 'carry-er' and readily gave it up. Dummy. My girlfriend's mom said it made me look 'too tough'. That really discouraged me..... :D
I like the solid feel and simplicity of design also. I was looking through my box of old users to pass one along to a bud who wanted a boxcutter/utility type knife and knew I had a bunch of extras. He didn't get any of the remaining 110s. He got a Shrade Sharktooth I found in the falls at the Guadalupe River.
I used Bucks for years as a billboard poster, carpenter, archaeologist and in nurserywork. Beat the crap out of them dropping them from billboards and with non-stop service at the nursery. Of my 5 remaining, the only carry-er left has a reprofiled tip and a half-moon notch at the base of the blade from cutting chicken wire. Of the 11 or 12 I've owned, several got lost or stolen and one got over-torqued and the blade broke in half. The others are really bad but are too 'mine' to part with. They open cans pretty well too. Your "...like a Zippo lighter, or a pair of Levi's 501, you have to have one one way or the other." line says a lot. The 'good ole simple stuff'. Don't want anything that I have to keep polished. I want something that takes a lickin' and keeps on stickin'.
I may pull this 2 blade Case XX 6265SAB from my pocket and hitch my Buck on the belt.....

I agree with your comparison to Spyderco quality (especially their higher end products) but let's not lead anybody to think these knives are anything like Cold Steel's zytel folders! :)

Agreed, they are a step up from Cold Steel & Spyderco's Zytel lines, but they're all still made by the same manufacturer in Japan ;)

I wonder if it would feel less cumbersome carrying the 110 in one of those? Hmm, Post Falls is just 'down the road' a bit from here.
Current problem: got a bad itch for a BM921.

Koot, the Maxpedition sheath is a lot less cumbersome than anything I've tried (including 45 mag carriers - which is a good idea), the knife fits tightly into the Max and as such it is not nearly as wide as other sheaths which have a more universal fit. For $11 @ TAD it's worth a try.

What a classic. I've got one 110 that I've had since they came with 440C. It's been through hell and back. My favorite is my custom shop 110 with Stag, nickel bolsters and BG-42.

Like the idea of titanium bolsters with G10.

Yup, those are what I like about this baby the most too. Sometimes, happiness can be obtained through simple things. :)

I got mine in last night...I'm hooked. I pick up the check from my moonlighting job today I'm torn between getting another model in S30V and and orginal 110 or jumping into the pool of customs, which at the price is awesome. Thinking ATS-34, Asian Water Buffalo w/ rivets and Nickel Bolsters. Decisions, Decisions.

We've doing a bunch a work on the house and cleaning out some of the clutter, after this purchase thinking about changing the direction of collection and refocus on a more "traditional" based collection.

Thanks for your reply. Did you get the 4" Maxpedition sheath for your 110 or are you still using the 5" ?

I got the 5" at first and they're a little big, I'm expecting a 4" to be delivered tomorrow and I think it will be perfect.

Let us know how the 4" works out when it arrives.

(hoping my "quote" works this time )

re: the quick draw sheath that Daniel Dorn mentioned...how do these things work? Where can I get one? Are they available for left-handed folks? I've put "one-armed bandits" on all my 110s and 560s, but I'm always interested in a new method of rapid deployment.

I got started on 110s late in life, but I've made up for lost time. I wouldn't be without one. Most non-knife people still think of them as some state-of-the-art assault weapon, and the term "Buck Knife" seems to be generic for any large folder.

Hi Jaguar, I've considered to use the Bandit on the 110 too but later decided to keep the knife look simple instead. Besides, for your info, we can actually open it by one hand too just by grabbing the back of the blade tight and flip out the handle. After that, all u have to do is to push the end of the handle to any surface to adjust the positions of the fingers to grab the handle. This method is handy enough for me. Just to share.

My 110 is with me all the time now also and I believe that I won't get bored of it any time soon. To me, or maybe to some also, 110 is "The" Buck knife.

Looking forward to hear about the comments of the 4 inches tube sheath from Ciprtle also. Currently I am looking around to see if there is any place that I can get a nice looking leather sheath for this blade too.

Been thumb opening mine for years but had to resort to the drop method on occasions when my hands were too slippery. Actually shaved a substantial area o' fingerprint off with a new one once. All skin. No blood.

The 110 is a great knife for the $ I've had mine for about 6 years mainly used for hunting, last year I did manage to break the tip off but had it ground down with not such a point.

It's going to be a few days before I can report on the shorter Maxpedition sheath, the dealer sent me the wrong item so I need to call them and have the sheath re-shipped.

Will update when I do get it though.

Yup the flip open way is much safer. Be careful, huh? :)

Got the right order from the dealer I bought my 4" Maxpedition sheath from and I wanted to give an update.

Without a doubt this is the best sheath I have ever owned for a 110 sized knife. It fits the 110 like a glove with no excess and is of incredible quality (like all Maxpedition products). I have owned similar sheaths costing 2-3 times as much money and they can't hold a candle to this one.

If you decide to get one keep in mind that this is not Maxpeditions knife sheath I am talking about, it's their 4" tube sheath and was designed for Innova flashlights, price is right around $12. TAD gear has them and I know Bladeart is a dealer so they may as well.

I will try to post some photos later when I have time if anyone's interested. In the mean time take a look at my earlier post to this thread and picture a smaller tighter fitting sheath.

I actually feel the same way about another knife......my girlfriend is jealous and its looking like she wants me to choose between her and the knife......the worst part about all this is I dont actually own the knife yet and all I have is a her picture......but its definately my soulmate and it was love at first sight......she doesnt know I exist yet but I'm trying to get my hands on her.......I've been emailing the seller and have still had no reply....I'm scared to ask if anyone else knows where I can get her just incase someone else see's her and keeps her for themselves.....she is a one of a kind.

is it possible to marry a knife??

Hey Cpirtle!

Nice to see your update. One question, does the belt loop detachable, That is if the user can take the sheath off the belt without un-buckle the belt.

On a side note, with the nice Fall weather is coming in finally, I sometimes carry my 110 "naked", no sheaths but just in my coat pocket instead. That way gives me a new feel about the knife too... now I call that "the fall fashion for the Buck 110". Hehehe.

One more thing, everyone, just out of curiousity, since Buck said the 110 is the "most copied knife" in the world, does that mean before 1963 folders doesn't really "invented"? What models and styles were available back then?
