Buck 110 vs Modern Folders

I will say I think his knife will fall apart and mine will still be going strong. (if he agrees)

"If I haven’t made myself clear, this is one solidly built knife. The blade is held in place by one of the most robust Torx headed pivot pins I have ever seen. While this will allow the blade to be tightened if it ever becomes necessary, the knife has not developed any wobble throughout the course of testing and use." ....and this test included batoning. Also both knives sell for about the same price.

We won't know till it happens Jill. Take it easy. I really want to see this comparison happen.

Oh I pretty well know what will happen. I've had too many of those metal bolstered lockbacks with the peened pins. (not just Buck) My confidence is way strong on this, just as strong as Buckman's is for sure. ;)

As I posted a while back, I was cleaning out my shed and had this old foam matras in there that had to go. A perfect opportunity to go full mall ninja on that thing so I tried out my entire knife collection on it.

Not a single knife, and I own quite a few high quality production folders, matched the destruction laid upon that matrass by the Buck 110. Both in slashing and piercing, especially the latter. I'm talking scary effectiveness.

the 110s long suit is that it fits the hand so well even the older squared of 110s felt good in hand.if given the choice of a 110 or a oh lets say spyderco para 2 to wittle a toothpick out of the center of a 4"x4" (long hard use in my book) the 110 wins every time.weight, yep its a handfull and a bit much in the pocket, but on the belt its handy and easy to carry.the steel? well 390 its not but it only takes a few laps on a stone to restore the edge.strenth? well i bought my frist in the late 60s and carried and used it dayly for some 15 years untill it grew legs one day i dont remember how much slop the blade had at that time but then again it was that it still locked up and was safe to use. in short this was a knife to use, not much fun to play with, not a featherweight but a dependable tool

Sharpened a friend's '70 era 110 the other week. It's a well used knife but still in great shape and no blade play.

Buckman really doesn't believe in proving things. He's of the opinion that people should take every word he says as gospel. :)

A bit of looking at his posts in the Buck forum shows he might just be talking out of both sides of his mouth, too. Of course if he wants to take me up on my offer, he can send any Buck 110 he owns.

I got 13 stitches due to a new 110 lock failure.

Despite saying ALL his 110's are "rock solid", one's lock failed and cut him 13 stitches worth? I'm confused, how is lock failure "rock solid"?

This topic started a riot over a chris Reeves knife lol. Anyway, ive got bunches of 110s and 112s and there all rock solid. (Not on this thread) but knocking the 110 isnt American. Everyone knows about a 110 weather ur a buck fan or not. Its probably the most popular knife out there. There just a great solid knife. And yes buck is coming out with a thumb studded pocket clip version of the 110. I have had a old 2 dot with a stud and clip for years. Cant beat them ·110·

The 110 is a knife men afield have trusted for decades. If it were crap equipment, that outfitter mentioned in the thread opener and carrying a "Buck 110 (or its equivalent)" likely would have tossed it years ago. To each his own. It apparently works well enough for the outfitter's uses.

You can dress a deer out with a slip joint too, if you know what you're doing, doesn't mean there's nothing better just because some people still use them.

I love the traditional lines of the 110. I agree it is heavier than most most modern offerings, but that can be changed. It's like a 69 Camaro with a suspension upgrade

Titanium bolsters and screws anodized yellow with carbon fibre scales: It's about 5 oz now.

JAG, IMO you are, by far, one of the best things happening in the Buck world currently. Your interpretations and variations on the 110 theme are just stunning.

I hate to say this but if somebody in Post Falls were to wake up, and like you, trust the classic lines of the 110 (and 112 and a few other models) and pursued a product strategy of producing many variants of these Buck classics, I'm convinced they would be able to to address their linger QC issues, strengthen their brand identity among new customers and have a formidable global brand.

Putting it another way, IMO, your stuff is more authentically Buck than 90% of the crazy, distracting designs they've been coming out with of late.

Jill,

If you would look at post #24 in the thread you linked to above you will find this post by buckman110.

"Bran new now, honestly right outta the box. I opened it, closed it and went to put it in the sheath and the blade stayed open a tad as I pushed it in the tip sliced me wide open. And y'all know how sharp a new 110 is!"

He misspoke when he said the lock failed.

If you look a little further at post #28 you will see where I asked him to correct his post so something like this would not give the wrong impression should someone be conducting a search or not read a particular thread in it's entirety. Unfortunately he did not take my advise so now we now have misinformation spread even further yet. Just trying to set the record straight.

Didnt say anyone on thos thread was knocking the 110 thats why i put it in parenthesis. :D id do that for sure:o

Well Buckman, I'm willing to send my Cold Steel to Ankerson to be tested against any of your 110's you pick? After all it's Buck 110 vs. modern folders. I don't think it will even be close.

Badhammer i did try to correct that post on my end. It did not want to re post it for whatever reason. I tried 3 times.
