No question I am a fan of the Buck 110. Everything about it. The Size and Weight are important to me. I have Spyderco's, Benchmades, Lionsteel, Kershaw's, Gerber's folding knives. Not nearly as many as my Buck knives. I see alot of people wanting a light weight 110, Too heavy to carry I see alot. Which is fine and thats why their are lots of choices for a lighter weight option whether it be a Buck knife or a competitor. Most of the compeititor knives built to compete with the 110 are all on the heavier side as well. Brass and wood for the most part. The aluminum model I havent had the pleasure to hold. I dont have an opinion until I do.

With over 15 million sold, lol I would say Buck has a winner for the long haul despite its weight and carry options.
So what are some weights out there of common items.

Buck 110. 7.2 OZ Not really that much when you think about it.

Buck 110 value, $ 3.88 an oz for your garden variety Buck 110. Let see what some others could cost an oz.
Benchmade Crooked River $36.20 oz
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 $30.06 oz
Case Bearhead Trapper $8.50 oz
Sebenza $87.23 oz

I pulled these up randomly.

Buck is quite the value and I guess the tradeoff is a heavier knife. I carry in on my belt to keep my pockets empty.

Just some random stuff.

We certainly won't mention the red shirted player and were is hand is:eek:. 1800gotjunk... Preston

I like the weight myself. I also like sheath carry so it doesn't bother me. If I want something a little lighter, I'll carry a 112. Which has actually been my preference lately. That said, I'm very interested in the aluminum 110. I just don't know if I want to blow that much coin on something I might not carry. Someone said it's so light it feels cheap, and that's stuck with me for some reason. And red shirt guy should worry about his own junk....is he a good teammate or a bad one????

Makael, that was a pretty cool post....

Great post. Our fathers and grandfathers fought a world war with a 10# rifle out of necessity. I refuse to complain about a 7oz knife I carry by choice.

On the days that I carry my 110, I simply don't wear undershorts to help offset the weight. :D

I have several 110s. I like them too. I don't like to sheath carry folding knives anymore . I really like the blade shape of the 110 drop and clip. Love using them. When I want to carry a 110 I grab the Bucklite's 426 or the 422 also Great knives , not as nice to look at. It's sad that a lot of Fans got so up set about having others suggest changes they would like. Most of what was asked wasn't even offered. The clip was, but only for if aluminum was voted in. But think a lot of what was suggested was just in hopes maybe Buck would see and maybe come out with a new Knife. I still think I would like 111 with a stainless frame and a clip that isn't just screwed on the side of the knife and by all means continue on with the famous 110s. Long live the Buck 110 Folding Hunter ! 👍

I agree, A new model that would satisfy some need for a modern version. And keep the 110 the classic it has always been. 15 million strong...

I have some where over 50 Buck 110's some new some junk some fancy home grown and some fancy store bought. Like my children I love them all equally (most of the time).

The classic brass frame 110 just feels good in the hand, so to me it's worth the bit of extra weight to carry on the belt. The nylon sheath seems to me more comfortable although I prefer the classy look of the standard leather sheath. Lately my EDC is my Buck Custom Shop 112 Ranger, leather sheath, though I may pick up a nylon case if I can find one. Or maybe I'll try to stitch one up out of latigo leather.

Buck has in the retail shop at the factory a huge drum full of nylon sheaths @ $6. They say they're for 110's but I bought a handful for 112's. Works perfect.

We really are spoiled these days with all the methods modern makers use to reduce weight. Based on what my father tells me, back when the 110 first came out it was the ZT of its day.

The thing is a beast. It's much like the way a 1911 is heavier than a polymer pistol. There's no major benefit but it sure is nice to hold.

When the 110 folding hunter was first introduced,I'll bet my last knife that weight was the least of anyone's concern in a knife purchase.back then things like that weren't even considered.seriously,a 110 isn't all that heavy, and the weight actually helps this knife in heavy duty work.makes light duty jobs very easy.THe weight of a knife is the last thing I worry about,I can have a folding Hunter in my back jeans pocket and it goes noticed.I think it's more of a discussion topic than an actual problem.

I never thought about the 1911 weight compared to polymer... Good Comparison. Goes hand in hand.

IIRC, the first 110s were slimmer and the blade smaller/narrower, not like the ones in the late 70s, early 80s, or the ones today. I'm not lucky/wealthy enough to own one but there are people on this forum that have them and might chime in. I sure they were beefier than most folder at the time, 1963-64. Not sure when the change to the real beef happened, I have what I think is one from 1972-74 and it's a beefy one. Preston

Those happy people are hoisting 32 ounce steins of beer. The Beer weighs about two pounds and the stein probably adds another two pounds. You could put a Buck 110 in the beer as a swizzle stick / party favor and they'd never notice the increased weight. A closed Buck 110. We do not want any accidental ingestions of an open 110!

After all the millions of Buck 110's made and sold in the last 50 years to hundreds of thousands of people who have loved and used them it is still a great seller for Buck! Generation after generation have discovered how good the 110 is and I'm willing to bet 50 years from now folks will still consider it to be THE knife all others are compared too.
