Buck 112 - pawn shop find, advice & opinions requested

Awright!
It looks new.
Thanks.

I got rid of my flip phone only because the cell carrier stopped servicing it.
Everything gets smaller, yet phones get bigger.🤔

With my smartphone, I gotta get me one of those apps where I can drive my truck via my phone.
They're pretty popular. I see them everywhere..👍🙄

I just got my first smart phone about two years ago. Had flip phones that were employer supplied and I refused to buy my own smart phone and take on the monthly bill. Why buy a phone when I already had one and never see a bill?

Got a new boss a couple years ago and one of the first things she did was get us all smart phones.

If and when I retire I’ll have to turn it in and get my own.

I see (barely) that it did not get the anniversary blade? Hope to see better pictures some day to give Buck craftsman the credit they deserve.
Railsplitter why did you replace your blade on your example? Didn’t look that bad?

Beautiful results, David!

Buck replaced the blade on mine because it had severe blade play in the closed position. The blade would rattle back and forth between the liners. Buck didn't elaborate but I assume that the play was caused by a worn tang and since the tang is part of the blade, the only way to eliminate the play was to replace the blade.

If Buck only would let us pay to upgrade to a super steel and/or a drop point blade replacement I bet I would find quite a few 112's that needed a new blade....

They used to do blade swaps. I them newish 110 and it came back to me with BG-42 goodness. I used the heck out of that knife. I retired it when I realized I had sharpened away about a mm of blade along the edge.

When I first started collecting 112's I didn't pay a lot of attention to the blade..All steel looked alike lol! The handle was the big deal. Brother David was the steel snob. But in 2008 there wasn't much besides 420 and Damascus. A FEW S30V's and the the 2006 BCCI knife had one of the rarest of all..a drop point. Even finding a nickel silver frame 112 was noteworthy. But over the years since then Buck has made a flood of choices..first a trickle then a stream and today the 112 comes close to the 110 in what you CAN get. Even S45VN as we seen with the Koa BOTM. I was sold on super steels with S35VN as a working knife. Before I never used one as the runs were typically under 100 and I saved them strictly for display only. I figure the reason why the 112 was limited in choices was because it was and is a 'Full Value' model by Buck unlike the 110 that I think Buck considered almost a loss leader. For the most part the 112 costs more than a 110. But its my favorite Buck.

More blood drawn on Thursday morning. My hand got in the way of the tip. Unfortunately, Instead of just a poke, the point penetrated and the sharp edge helped it go couple of millimeters deep.

Be careful with that thing or you might put your eye out.

It has drawn first blood! I was doing a little "maintenance shaving" yesterday and felt something a little weird on my cheek. This morning A had a very slight, very thin line of dried blood in the same spot, maybe one centimeter long.

In other news, I'm carrying it in the nylon sheath from my 112 LT hanging from my neck lanyard. I was concerned about the weight since it's so much heavier than the LT. I don't really notice the extra weight. It is lighter than it was because the Buck tech who worked on it very skillfully thinned the bolsters at an angle to remove the deep gouges in the brass. It feels good in the hand too.
See. Packrat is not happy.
