Buck 119 & 110 in 5160 steel should be interesting

I've been trying to find a good comparison of 5160 to 420HC. I understand it's a tougher steel. But, will it stay sharp as long or longer. Is it easier or harder to sharpen. Since the 119 and 110 are offered in 420HC, I would enjoy an opinion from someone that is familiar with both.

I just recently ordered a charcoal 110 in 5160 and was wondering the same. As good or better edge retention? I think it is a tougher steel than 420hc? I am interested to see what magic Bos heat treat will do to 5160!
Will it be easier to sharpen than 420hc? The site I ordered from had charcoal and oak scales. I believe 100 of each were made in the custom shop. This is the first time they have strayed away from stainless. I could not believe their price from a custom shop built 110.

Price might be a bit higher but I'd love to see this vendor, another vendor or Buck itself offer a barebutt 110 with drop point and fingergrooves in 5160. Maybe even some more 100 series like the 105, 113, 118 or the 120. A matching 112 in charcoal or oak would be sweet as well.

I agree... Even though the standard 110 is still a hugely popular knife, and probably one of the best values to be found, offering more options might just attract a new customer base.

If they bring out a 112 with similar features, I would definitely score one or two of those. I would either have to get use to having a sheath on my belt, or carrying it loose in pocket though :D

As much as the 5160 110's are a great knife at a great price, I would never carry it, so I am having a hard time pulling the trigger on one... But then again, I already have quite a few other knives that I don't carry and use, but I can still fondle and admire them :D

The auction site has bay in it's name. We can't actually name it since it's not a paid Blade forums dealer. Just do a search there for Buck 5160.

Thanks for the tip man ... But I'm gonna need a lil more info then that . Do I google it? Or is it something on the forum? And we're do I search at? Just top corner "bay auction"?

This 5160 thread is costing me!!! In the last couple of days I found out about the 5160 and Master Hunter versions and bought them both.....today I just had to go by Cabelas and get the Alaskan Guide version too, since I 'm in this deep...why not?? 😁

I just got back from vacation to find this one sitting in the mail box.

This is one sweet knife. I was worried about mismatched scales but these seem pretty close. It is much more solid when open then my standard 110 with almost zero play.
However, upon further inspection I found a couple flaws. There are very large gaps along the spring, and the blade is so off center that you might be able to slip a hair between the blade and liner. I don't really mind the gaps. My main fear is that over time the blade is going to shift enough to start scrubbing.

Although, this is going to be a user, so I guess I'll just use it for a while and go from there.
